Art Crawl!!!

Interesting story about the members of Tallulah Gosh and what they're doing now.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Love Tallulah Gosh! How interesting. Much nicer than finding out Miki Berenyi is working in a record shop.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Gar, when it comes to creepy love songs, I vote for Johnny Get Angry. Which was a top ten pop hit in its day, so also mainstream.

That's almost as depressing as Fontaine Toups working in a thrift shop. Not right.

The new Tender Trap album is really good!

When was that? She's doing quite well. She's been in charge of the books for a restaurant group in NYC for years now.

Oh good! It was a few years back that I read that somewhere.

Paul McCartney Reportedly Replacing Kurt Cobain in Nirvana Reunion

Huh?

We should’ve known this date would bring about some weird news. The Guardian is reporting that Paul McCartney is set to take the place of Kurt Cobain in a set at tonight’s 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at Madison Square Garden.

Surviving members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic haven’t played together in 20 years—save Novoselic’s appearance on the latest Foo Fighters album—but will perform a new song they’ve been working on with McCartney.

According to the article, McCartney’s spokesperson said Grohl asked him to play recently and the music icon found himself playing with the whole band—including guitarist Pat Smear, who toured with the band near the end of its run and is also a member of Foo Fighters.

“I didn’t really know who they were,” McCartney was quoted in the article. “They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said: ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?’ And somebody whispered to me: ’That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”

12-12-12 The Concert for Sandy Relief will bring together the likes of the Rolling Stones, Kanye West, Bruce Springsteen and as the above proves, much, much more. It begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. EST and will broadcast live on select television networks and in select theaters. It will also stream online.

IMHO it's not a Nirvana reunion; just some guys playing together.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That's whacky. And yet, Paul's got the rock and roll voice to sing "Helter Skelter" so I think he could rock "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

Side note: I'm still mildly boggled that Kathleen Hanna married Mike D. of the Beastie Boys.

They should play some songs from the Backbeat soundtrack. (eta: Dave Grohl played on it.)

I just rewatched Backbeat. Good times. So I bought the soundtrack and the first four Beatles albums along with the first Beatles anthology. I've always preferred mid-late Beatles to their early stuff, but now I'm enjoying their early stuff for its enthusiasm - I can almost imagine how new it must have sounded back then.

Also, I really liked the graphic novel Baby's in Black (about Astrid and Stu). It's fun to compare that book to the movie Backbeat.

Yeah, the graphic novel is more from Astrid's point of view, while the movie is more Stu's.
