I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Looking for, not sad, per se, but slow fiddle music, like Thomas Newman's score from The Horse Whisperer [link] or Jeff Beal from Carnivale [link] or the bookends of Seminole Wind [link] but, not a score or soundtrack. I don't even know what to search for. I keep winding up with jigs and rags and bagpipes and Cajun music when I'm looking for sorrowful or contemplative or just ambient.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The first half of this medley, "The Women of Ireland" by Laurie Lewis is exactly what you're looking for. Unfortunately, it's followed by an uptempo tune.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Here, The Chieftains do a lovely version of "Women of Ireland".

You basically want to search for "Irish Fiddle Lament" and you'll get lovely pieces like this slow air.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.
