During sessions for Springsteen's 1975 breakthrough "Born to Run," Clemons spent 16 hours recording his solo on "Jungleland," the nine-minute track that closes the album.

They opened for a guy called Brett Dennen. Now, neither of us had heard of him until we bought tix for the she show. None of our friends had either--and we have a lot of music-mad friends. We bought his albums and he is a good songwriter with a quirky voice--he's pretty AOR for me, but definitely talented. They apparently use his songs on a lot of TV shows. The Orpheum was packed and people were NUTS over this guy. There was screaming and dancing and arm-waving. We were in the middle of an alternate universe where this guy was a huge star. We left the concert saying "Who ARE these people and where did they hear of this dude?"
My wife loves Brett Dennen. The first time she was playing one of his albums, both of us referred to him as a her. He's fairly androgynous in appearance and his voice registered as a she-voice to both of us. We were surprised to learn that she was a he. All that aside, yeah, I really dislike his music.
