What are you thinking of as the original? It's probably better than whoever was in the original cast recording, but better than Ella? I dunno...
I've been learning Summertime for the theremin, so it's been on my mind a lot lately. :)

Have people seen the video? They go to the same place in Minneapolis where Mary threw her hat into the air (Nicolette Mall, IIRC).

Siouxsie's cover of "The Passenger" -- although I can't really tell whether it's better, or just tied too deeply to too many bone-deep memories for the original, which I first heard many years after the cover, to gain any purchase.
