Damn, Grace Jones' cover of Joy Division's "She's Lost Control" is weird....
Buffista Music 4: Needs More Cowbell!
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
well, it is grace jones.
Whoa, this is a significant find.
Footage from the Atomic Sunrise Festival (1970) has emerged.
Significant because it features super rare footage of David Bowie with The Hype - his first band with Mick Ronson, featuring Tony Visconti on bass. This is from 1970, and you can see Bowie's working through some early aspects of glam.
Also, very early Genesis footage.
Saw Concrete Blonde last night at the Majestic in Detroit. Smaller venue, standing room only. We were 10 feet from the band and they were AMAZING. Johnette Napolitano is one of the most amazing musicians I have ever seen in my life.
I know DJ is going to see her in a bit. It is an amazing show.
Here's a treat. Never-before-seen video footage of the Cure, performing live in Boston in 1980. Robert Smith looks so... normal!
I should clarify, that the guy who runs that site has previously had other cure videos posted from the same gig; it's this particular song that's new.
The Rolling Stone's Top 20 Songs of All Time.
Pretty heavily weighted to classic rock, which I guess is unsurprising. Don't get me wrong, I love the Beatles, but they seem overrepresented. Four Beatles songs and John Lennon, but no Janis Joplin? Hmmph.
I think that list pretty much sucks. There's a wealth of rock that didn't even get touched.
