The Veils (who totally need to be on Vol. 2 of Hec's Louche Crooners mix; they're like a cross between Nick Cave and the Divine Comedy)
Duly noted!
Scary country: The Handsome Family; Will Oldham.
More indie rock: Silver Jews - Tanglewood Numbers.
Regina Specktor, Hannah Fury. (Mordant chanteuse)
Raveonettes and the Thermals.
What's more Gothic?
Walpole's Strawberry Hill
or...
Newstead Abbey.
Both homes, of course, for very gothy writers.
(I suppose this should go in Literary but there's probably a greater Gothish set of opinions here.)
I'd say the Abbey is more gothic, from those two photos anyway.

It's more ruined, for sure. Plus, you know - Byron! But Strawberry Hill was one of the very first Gothic Revival houses - a true folly. And Walpole did write a gothic classic.
Check out the library.
This room's pretty wild.
Can't I just have both? And the staff to support them?
Oooh Jilli! How would you dress the staff?

I think, ideally, you want them to be slightly understaffed. Otherwise no picturesque decay; no cobwebs.
Also, it helps if they're rather daft or possibly some combination of harelipped and hunchbacked.
You'll need a big attic such as Fuschia had.
Great. I come here for music recs and get drool-worthy architecture.
I set a game in Strawberry Hill once. Very gothic game.
Also, thanks all for the recs. Either I or my DH had purchased about 40%, but I've been downloading and loving some of the others!
PS: Nick Cage is having to sell the LaLaurie Mansion on Nov. 12, for 1.8 - 2 million. Who wants to go in with me?
