Balder I'm willing to overlook, since we've seen other gods from dead religions degenerate into a pretty low state and resort to eating people before. But it doesn't fly for non-bloodthirsty deities from thriving religions.

And there are actually a few people who have revived worship of the Norse gods, but I think they number a few thousand worldwide and are mostly in fandom.

I know I say some harsh things about him, but I totally don't think Kripke ruined his character. Along with the angry drinking stuff we've had this season, we've also had his portrayal by Matt Cohen, and those have been of an innocent and loving guy. I think they've made him more complicated, and heartbreaking. Not trashed.

But while I was doing my brief foray into random LJs yesterday (no more this week, I think--at least not until I get desperate), I hit upon an entry that was all "I'll never watch again because Kripke hates John."

I just don't see that. I can see viewers hating John, but with how chibi!John was written, I don't get the writers hating him. Dean, right now? Yes, very angry. But he's said horrible things to/about everyone. Doesn't make them canon.

I'm rereading this thread from the beginning, and I just hit the discussion of Changing Channels and the Trickster/Gabriel reveal and...SAD NOW. I'm going to miss that guy.

I can't help but hope that what Dean said to him at the end sinks in and that Gabriel does wind up standing up to his family. For one thing, story-wise, that could be kind of awesome. For another, I'd love to see the character come back for an episode.

I knew Kripke was going to kill off allies, and stuff. I just figured he'd hit closer to home. I wasn't braced for this.

In fact, I allowed myself one purchase off iTunes for this season last week, and it was between The End and Changing Channels. I decided to go for the funny, and I'm glad I did. I still can't get over Dean's face when Dr. Sexy approaches. It's exactly his "boobies!" face, like the one he has in the stripper dream in The Song Remains The Same.

I watched an interview with JDM saying he didn't think he'd play John again because the story had moved on and because the character had changed so much. Which? Well, it's his take and all but I think he's (JDM) just so damn charming that we thought much more woobie thoughts of John for a while.

I am not anti-John but he wasn't most focused on raising his boys, he wanted revenge first and foremost. Which morphed into saving people, hunting things and the family business but it started with wanting revenge for his wife's death.
