Why why do they insist on the layers and the long sleeves all the time?
In the commentary for IMToD, Jared remarks that it was the most comfortable Jensen had been for any ep, wearing just scrubs and a teeshirt. So I don't think it's actor choice.
When the series started, the slightly oversized leather jacket, and later the layers, were a way to bulk Jensen up onscreen to appear more physically imposing as the elder brother. In his twenties he was quite slender, despite the shoulders, and they wanted to give the impression he was a little massier. Much the same way Jared's hair was combed and laquered down over his forehead in S1 to lend a childish quality to his face and make him seem younger and more vulnerable.
Worked, in both cases, pretty much. I know lots of people were surprised at how *not* fireplug chunky JA was out of Dean's clothes, and at how lantern-jawed rawboned mature Jared suddenly seemed when they parted his bangs and got them off his face.
Well, the ship has sailed on making anyone not look small next to Jared, so they might as well strip JA down.
It makes me laugh every time JP inhales deeply (or huffs, as the fics would have it), because it looks like his pecs become horizontal. And his shoulders look like they're being squeezed by my TV. And I have a large TV. Insane.

Well, yeah. He went to work in his jammies for a week.
I don't care why they did it, but I think they were wrong. JA's musculature is much more noticeable without the layers. And I would like to see more of it, please.
How about the leather jacket over a t-shirt. Or a henley. And he can take the jacket off a lot. But I like the jacket.
Why did I try and google for those pieces of clothing? I should have known I had them myself.
Did you say something?
(The t-shirt picture did me in.)
I do love the jacket. And I LOVE him in a henley. (And I love the gold hair on his forearm in that shot.)
But the t-shirt picture. Jesus, the guns are frigging HUGE.
What ep is the t-shirt shot from? I'm curious about the shadows in the background.
It's not a scene, it's him prepping for a scene. I never managed to find out the provenance, but that's crew in the background.
I think that's a pre-shoot shot, and those are crew shadows. I don't remember which ep it's from.
It's from the episode he dies in, AHBLII?
ETA: Whoops, It's No Rest for the Wicked.
You mean No Rest For the Wicked, when Dean dies?
