During the time when Dean died on Wednesday in Mystery Spot, would that have counted as Heaven? The hell hounds didn't take Dean and Gabriel was pulling the strings for the months Sam was on his own. Other than Mystery Spot, Dean's only died in NRftW and DSofM.

The Trickster told Sam, in Mystery Spot, that after he died on Wednesday he was downstairs roasting merrily or something along those lines when Sam said, "Bring him back."

Well, that's what he *told* Sam. Apparently he reset time. I never did understand the absolute reality of that one. If Sam lived the six months alone and still remembers it, then Dean should have lived the six months in hell, and remember that, right?

But he also made it clear the point was to teach *Sam* a lesson, not Dean. So my guess is he said that, but had Dean in limbo, or Dean was in hell, but he wiped his memory.
And Gabriel is an archangel, so I'd think he could yank him out at will.

Then why didn't they just have an archangel yank Dean out at will when he went down for real? Why wage a war in hell to get him out? Did Dean make it six months aka sixty years the first time around and not break?

Good point. Um. Then I'd have to retcon that Gabriel was only saying that to dig the knife into Sam's gut a little deeper, and was really holding Dean in some kind of limbo.

I'm gonna go with Dean was in heaven since now I don't think he could have been in hell. Which satisfies my Ash requirement.
Of course, one wonders where Sam was before he was resurrected and how the demon could get its hands on his soul to bring him back to life.
