It's the Buffy and Angel? Ew! factor of viewers and reviewers who came to SPN in later seasons. The only backstory they have is the previouslies, and they really don't care so much what got the characters this far.
We hates them. Wicked, tricksy, false!

Okay, I really did just laugh out loud. Thanks for that, even if I did have to explain it to the other human in the room.
I don't think the snaps on the shirt making the shape of a cross is a thematic thing, actually. Sam has (and JP, to a con or two, as he seems to dress out of Sam's...duffel) worn that shirt with the diamond-shaped snaps since last season. Seems like I remember it from S3, but I could be wrong. Mere coincidence the snaps forming the cross shape, would be my guess.
Colin was explaining to me that it's not simple to get your character's clothes. But JP has more pull, so maybe it's easy for him.
Still, there are ways.
Maybe they don't like him taking the sheriff stuff because it is harder to replace? Although there has to be uniform places that could be harvested. I mean I can understand to a degree why they would want to keep some stuff in case there was a reshoot or a retcon flashback? Maybe they just want to be able to sell the stuff on ebay. The boys would be easier to outfit.
I saw "Colin" and immediately thought young!Sam, which made me remember that any more childhood flashbacks with him better happen soon. He's getting bigger!
Colin Young!Sam was such a cutiehead in this last ep. I keep seeing him dancing for joy in the fireworks. Mostly because I replay the episode. But even so, it was a thing of pure happiness. Loved it.

He didn't mean sheriff stuff (if he wants that, I don't think I want to know about it, really), just general clothing. Even for movie shoots when there aren't going to be reshoots it can be difficult to get them to give you your character's stuff. However, if you marry a director, you can snag some goodies.

I'd have to really want the dress.

Or a movie. He's the One True Young!Sam.
It just occurred to me during my last meeting (because of my doodling, and the warring doodling happening across the table) that Sam Wesson is a much better artist than Sam Winchester. Sam was kinda crap at drawing in Bedtime Stories. But Wesson's vamps in It's A Terrible Life were pretty good.
