I can pull out one of my gmail accounts and see what this google chatting thingummy is all about. It's in-browser? What browser do you use? Firefox?
I highly recommend skype, though, even if you don't go the video conference route, because it lets you fake phone calls. Very nifty. My sister and I easily blow an hour at a go video chatting with each other.
