Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

Kneel before Glod. ~Stephen Colbert

I am totally sucked into the Twitter thing.

I finally discovered the immense value of Twittering in breathtakingly painful business meetings. Extremely therapeutic.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

It is more socially acceptable than lunging across the table and beating someone into blessed silence.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

But is it more satisfying?

No. Too bad it's not acceptable to list "did not kill anyone" as an accomplishment for my trimester review.

I was watching a televised Simon and Garfunkel concert in Central Park, and a fan came flying up onstage. I have never seen a look of fear like Paul Simon had on his face as she barreled toward him. She only wanted a hug, but realistically, she could have had a knife, or been psychotic on drugs.

Speaking of not acceptable, I'm still boggled that people would think that jumping on the object of their fannish attention is in any way okay. I wonder if it's that some otherwise sane people's emotional investment in characters/actors/what-have-you gets strong enough so that on some deep, lizard-brain level, they expect that their intentions and feelings must be acknowledged. Some fans seem to react to requests for privacy the same way I might react if a friend tried to shut me out of his or her life.

Particularly if you listed it as an objective and didn't exactly "meet" expectations. ;-)

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

They just sweetened the pot. [link]

Fans will be offered guided tours of the Supernatural standing sets where they will witness the exceptional quality of detail, workmanship and artistry spread over three enormous sound stages. Tour guides will be members of the Supernatural production team, escorting groups through sets as well as production areas including props, wardrobe, and workshops. Actual hero props including the Winchester Colt and Sam and Dean's shotguns will be on view.

Now here's the big one: fans will get a once in a lifetime chance to have a photo taken with The Winchesters' famed black Impala. This treasured keepsake will be provided as part of the tour and delivered to participants prior to the close of the convention.

Dude who cares about seeing the actors? Set tours and photo op with the Impala. I should go right? But I can't. But I want to. But I cant.

eta: In the minus column, I don't have a passport. In the plus column I would have to get a passport.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

You know, if I could talk to staff and crew, and see the sets and ask questions and NOT attend the con? I think I would almost be willing to do that. I'll be an hour, +/-, from the venue. I should probably do that. I have a list of shooting locations from all seasons, and DH has his Van and Burnaby maps, and is plotting out a couple of location tours, as well as some places from X-files, the Stargates, Jeremiah, DA, etc. I think standing in place and taking pictures from shooting POV may fulfill my fannish heart.

That seems so much more civilized than a con--which really seems like a form of torture to me. Geeking out with a set dresser might be fun, but not if Muffy wants to know what color Jared's eyes are against that funny colored wall.

I'm a terrible fan.

I think I've almost talked myself into it. I've never done a con and I haven't loved a show like this since Angel. Doing the actual con with the celebrity thing is kind of icky...but I could go up to my room if it was uncomfortable. The set stuff made the difference.

Worse case scenario I meet a mountie that looks like Paul Gross and run off into the mountains with him.
