Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

On further reflection, something leapt out at me. "You don't know me. You never have."

Hurt younger sibling spite? Or (dum, dum, duuummm) prophetic pronouncement? Were there clues to this? Some terrifying space clues that I may have overlooked?

Also, why the hell didn't Dean tell Sam what Castiel said about what it would take to kill Lilith?

But that would be too much like having actual honest communication!

t /maybe a little bit cranky

(fallen?) angel

After we saw Castiel's change in attitude, I thought to myself that now he's going to Fall, not for helping the humans, but for his own guilt that he can't.

I don't know. Given that Dean had locked him in an iron cage to die, and offered reconciliation only the condition that Sam and Dean kill Sam's girlfriend, maybe Sam does not see much point in honest communication.

Nah, that's really Sam. And Dean does know Sam: he knew which car he stole, and which hotel he'd use, and where he'd end up, even while he knew that Sam was trying to ditch him.

However, Dean also doesn't really know Sam as he is now, post-"Mystery Spot", post-AHBL. Dean's spent the last year shoving Sam back into the season 1 box, and he really doesn't fit. Dean wants normality, and for him that's Sam in the passenger seat doing what Dean wants. I think Sam has a legitimate gripe in that Dean hasn't recognized Sam's maturity over the last few years.

Of course, that doesn't give Sam the right to beat the shit out of his brother, but it does go a little way to explaining his resentment.

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

What Consuela said.

As a viewer I was operating on Dean's level of perception until the wishing well episode when Sam didn't want to wish to be back with Jess. I did the dog head tilt and finally started to accept that Sam really wasn't Season 1 Sam anymore and the change had been earned (boy howdy) even if not every minute was seen on screen.

Dean was a father to Sam. As much as Dean tried to protect Sam and give him little pieces of hope, to see Sam embrace everything that Dean was raised to hate, Dean has to be going out of his mind. Not only was he willing to take the chance that Sam might die detoxing, I can accept him wishing for it (for just a split second and then feeling really guilty) even if only subconsciously. To not have to protect Sam anymore--what a relief that would be. "Lay your weary head to rest"

Kansas is playing here in Wichita tonight btw.

Parallelly Sam has an all time high hate-on for himself. He was so judgmental of PresentSam with FordSam and I almost cried when PresentSam told FordSam to "grow up!" He's showing Dean level of self hate. And how could he not resent Dean for not seeing who he really is? How could he not resent Dean for calling him a monster?

eta: Also 'Suela's story rocks!!

'Suela, I love that story. Soooo much. I want them to film it and show it a year from now, and every Christmas in syndication.

::nodding along with Austin::

Sam was taunted with a wish to let Dean go, not to have to protect his weakened brother, give up responsibility for him. And now Dean's getting the same temptation. It hurt so badly when hallucination Dean called Sam a monster, and I think it actually took some of the awful sting out of it when real Dean said it later. It didn't hurt, it made Sam angry.

And Colin Ford is just a marvel. JP said they did spend some time together working on lines, and that would have been fun to watch, I think. Two professionals. The kid is so good.

"Grow up." "Boo hoo." Oh, Sammy.

I have to admit that I'm amused to have been so entirely wrong in my theory about Sam going bad: instead of getting angry and going off to join the bad guys, Sam is competing with Dean to be the one who stops the apocalypse.

"I get to!"

"No, I get to!"

Very eight years old, really.

And of course Sam hasn't (apparently) figured out that he's being strung along, that what Ruby's asking him to do will probably start the apocalypse. Because that's it, isn't it? Lilith's death at the final seal is what opens the final seal. Which is why Lilith's not wrong when she says she's not going to survive.

I haven't yet figured out how Dean's being misled, but it's clear he is. Perhaps the idea is that whoever kills Lilith at the final seal gets a leg up on the other party?
