Could just be a hoax, though. I fake some headaches, everyone gets used to poor helpless Spike. Then one day, no warning, I snap a spine, bend a head back, drain 'em dry. Brilliant.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Dean's playing the JDM role?

What's the appeal of John/Dean if they're not related?

Because books.

If the age difference is still there, I'd imagine it's still the father/son vibe, or at least a kind of "mentor emotionally drawn to naif" thing.

I should probably qualify that by saying the one John/Dean I read and enjoyed (and which made me sob) was one in which Dean has been orphaned young and placed in foster care, and John is a hunter he meets when he's hustling. The author never states it explicitly, but the takeaway is Dean is one of the children John placed in foster care after the fire, and Sam (I think) died as a baby .

ita, yes.

For the second question: they're both hot? Experienced older guy/younger guy? Playing with the daddy kink without the taboo?

I know there a bunch of people who won't read Sam/Dean if they're not related. They read it for the fucked up ness. If there just two guys, who cares?

And others that won't read Wincest unless the kids grew up as hunters or something similar, because they don't want to read about emotionally healthy brothers screwing each other.

I can totally see both of those.

D/C allows for a lot age difference play, so it wouldn't occur to me to split the Winchesters and bring them back together--I guess if it's not gruff slave driving John dealing with his compliant son, why isn't it a JDM/JA fic?

For Daddy kink, see Rufus. I would let him play with dollies.

I then saw a pic that was almost exactly the same. Incredible what can be done. He was even made to be more slender.

That looks a little drag queen for me, although she did a great job 'shopping it. There was a picture a few years back of him in black and eyeliner, though, that REALLY worked for me.

Julie, did you read the aptokteino D/C story that got finished up yesterday? It left me in a deliciously conflicted place, but I didn't read the first two bits. I was wondering if they were rewarding.

Most surprisingly I'm currently enjoying an AU WIP with an asexual Cas, and I have no idea what I'm rooting for. I mean, I don't want his asexuality erased, but I want Dean to get laid. It's very complicated.
