I like the way the walls go out. Gives you an open feeling. Firefly is a good design. People don't appreciate the substance of things. Objects in space. People miss out on what's solid.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

What? Since when can ghosts possess people on this show?

So.... he's up and moving in the preview. Just random convulsions and flashbacks?

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

I thought we'd have a couple more episodes before we got the hell flash-backs.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I love how JP was filmed in the prison with the sheriff's wife. He seemed so small and vulnerable and genuinely hopeful, especially in comparison to how large he seemed in the flashbacks. Was his hair different? Can acting make a forehead smaller? He looked more like season 2 Sam.

Dean is on such shaky ground with his policy of Deny, Ignore, Cross Our Fingers, and how he's so far into the "we're not talking about this" that he doesn't even say "We're not talking about this." and just walks away from the conversation. He's not even trying. Maybe that's where the "older" impression comes from. He seems tired in a different way. Like he fought for and got what he wanted most in the world, and, IDEK...

I'm kinda peeved that the whole soul reinstating issue was set up on such murky grounds, because it's making the follow-up just as murky. It's not as bad as how Cas' stance has been written, but still.

I got a bit of a season 1 or 2 vibe off the ep, which was nice.

Also, has JA always talked with his hands this much, and I've just discovered a new obsessive kink of mine?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

and just walks away from the conversation. He's not even trying.

It's not just that though. He's arguing with Sam on pursuing this shit but only so far before he shrugs and gives in. It's trust he didn't exibit before, but it's also a passivity or fatalism that seems new.

I was all ready for Dean to bluster and bullshit some more, and he just... stops.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

it's also a passivity or fatalism that seems new.

That's it exactly. It's not that he's going through the motions, but that the motions are all that matters anymore, the end game doesn't. Is there even an end game? This season is really leaving me pretty confused.

Up until Sam hit the floor, I think Dean had already achieved his endgame. Keeping Sam from scratching was sort of a goal, and he was fighting to keep him from doing so, but maybe with his newfound maturity in Swan Song in letting Sam with his plan to take down Lucifer, Dean is giving in to Sam needing to make amends. As much as he doesn't want Sam to scratch, it's half-hearted when Sam-with-soul wants and needs to do something. He wanted This Sam back, so he can't really deny This Sam from doing what This Sam does.

Is it still to save people and hunt the evil sons-of-bitches? For a while it was to save people and hunt as many evil sons-of-bitches as possible while tracking the YED, then save people and hunt the evil sons-of-bitches while running from the angels and Lucifer and trying to avert the Apocalypse. Then it became save people and hunt some evil sons-of-bitches while trying to reclaim Sam's soul from the Pit.

So in between Sam trying to make amends for things that I still personally don't hold him responsible for (because I think it was more like an alternate personality, or being possesssed than Sam himself), but he himself holds himself responsible for, and yet more saving people and hunting evil sons-of-bitches, I guess we're just in a holding pattern while waiting for the next Big Bad to show up. I'm guessing that's going to be The Mother of All, or whatever we're going to call the Dragon Mommy.
