The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

When you come into a thread after some time away, I don't see a time gap. I see a string of posts. I can tell you what I (and apparently some others) feel about how the culture of the thread has changed, but I am feeling a lot of pressure to codify my discontent with examples and date stamps.

Again, I retract my suggestion.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

run them out of their thread

Who says it's "theirs" and not "ours" as well? It's a fic thread, for discussing fic.

But just so I'm clear, SPN is persona non grata on the board everywhere but in this thread? I know people are reluctant to have "disagreeable content", which apparently, as I'm understading from tonight's discussion, includes anything SPN-related, anywhere else on the board?

Okay fine, if that's the consensus. It just feels like self-ghettoization to me.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I've never felt like SPN talk is unwelcome elsewhere on the board, but I started watching long after SPN had its own thread.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I can't learn without lessons, Anne, and I don't understand what makes you uncomfortable. That's why I'm pressing.

I understand you had an emotional response to seeing posts you don't want to read. But if your problem is conversations being stifled, that I can work with. I just haven't seen it. If your problem is that people post about stuff you don't like--I'm sorry. But I don't know what you do like. All I can do is stop talking about the stuff that upsets you.

Who says it's "theirs" and not "ours" as well? It's a fic thread, for discussing fic.

Do you post there? By "them" I also include me and any of us who post there, pretty much not about SPN. Anne does sometimes, but like I said--little traction. When I'm there, I'm participating in a thread culture that's never fostered Show.

Anyway, fuck it. I have no interest in moving my fic discussion away from the show and cognitively will have an easier time not talking about it. It's related to the show for me, and it doesn't work for me there. It's easier to stop.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Check back--I never said it was unwelcome. I said it never gained traction. Any influx of volume and posters on a topic that never had tenacity beforehand is a wholesale change of tenor I have no interest in being part of. I'm only personally against it, it's not like I can tell anyone not to do it.

I'm just not going to.

Shit changes all the time. I just want no part of that particular putative one.

Got it.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

When Consuela, Nutty, and others were watching SPN and writing and posting SPN fic, there were recs and discussion of their and others' fic, along with fic in other fandoms. It's only been since the separation from Boxed Set, and a drift to other fandoms by writers on the board, that there've been fewer SPN recs in the fic thread. I've both posted links and discussed fics for SPN in there, and I'm subbed to the thread and read whatever new posts there are.

I don't want to discourage anybody from enjoying Show the way they like. There is obviously considerable interest in fic recs and discussion, so by consensus, that should go on here. Posting art and other links of course should go here.

I'm sorry if I had any part in fostering discomfort, but I'm glad we had the discussion.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Thank you, ita. I took a bath and calmed down a bit, and now I can think more rationally. Speaking out like that is not something I do often or easily, and it takes a lot out of me.

It's related to the show for me, and it doesn't work for me there. It's easier to stop.

And I think that's it, right there. My main issue is with the volume of conversation shifting away from the meta and other discussion that is related to the show for me towards fanworks.

I like fanworks, and I like many of them a lot, but for me, enjoyment of a show and enjoyment of its fanworks are fairly separate. I see discussion of fic as something different from discussion of show. Sometimes, it's related, but I don't see it as the same thing. Sometimes, I see it as very different, and when discussion turns to the extreme AUs or pairings that make me go 'buh?' you may as well be discussing Glee as far as I'm concerned. To me, it reads as 'off-topic.' Sometimes, off-topic can be entertaining to me. Other times, not so much.

I know it's frustrating, but sometimes it takes me a while to figure out exactly why I'm having a strong reaction to something.

I don't want to discourage anybody from enjoying Show the way they like. There is obviously considerable interest in fic recs and discussion, so by consensus, that should go on here. Posting art and other links of course should go here.

What Beverly said. I will adjust to skimming fic discussion when it occurs and I will trust that when Show starts again, there will be plenty of discussion. I apologize for the discomfort I caused people, but I am glad we had the discussion.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

I get frustrated too, Anne. I just skim hoping to find links to articles or pics of Misha.

I prefer direct show talk to fic, since I don't read fic. But, I figure the thread is for all of us, so I just count the days till the show starts again.
