Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?
[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.
Aha. I see.
I still think reading dyslexia into canon is just pandering to your particular narrative/character kinks. He's shown absolutely no problem reading or spelling whatsoever, much less dyslexia-specific issues. Yet it seems to have a minor fan following.
Yeah, that's fanon, not canon.
For some reason it really bothers me when people don't draw a clear line between canon and fanon. I mean, I get that Dean's only really bi in my head, despite his goo goo eyes at Dr. Sexy. That's never going to play out anywhere except for fanfic.
And that there are things canon leaves room for, or maybe implies, but I know I can't say are supported--like John laying a hand on the boys. Got nothing to that but my reading of it.
It's just, you see people so freaking adamant, it's like shit has been stated somewhere, and they call it canon (or "as good as") and I gotta wonder how they consume.
Never mind the fixit fics and arts I've seen to make up for the Cas/Meg kiss last week. And, oh, the names that she's being called. Slut, whore, all sorts of angry stuff. Because Show was so mean and horrible to get demon GIRL cooties all over Cas, people need to fix it with lots of Dean spit.
Look, folks, I ship it too. But we're all making shit up. It looks weird when you get so emotional about it. Your issues are showing.
Because Show was so mean and horrible to get demon GIRL cooties all over Cas
I haven't read those posts (not being a Dean/Cas shipper myself), so is it the demon part or thie girl part that they're objecting to? Because if it's the girl part, they've got to be willfully ignoring the "angels are essentially genderless" issue. Castiel's current vessel is a human male, but the essential Castiel is not.
And, oh, the names that she's being called. Slut, whore, all sorts of angry stuff.
Oh, lovely. Wish I could say I was surprised.
In other news, I had a rather awful realization about the implications of Cas 'taking care of' the residents of Monster Gitmo. Wouldn't that have included the shifter babies? And Bobby-John?
That's
where I would like fixit fic, or at least an ep tag to undo the belated horror.
Yeah, I have friends in the Trek fandom who have recently started watching SPN that are appalled at what they find out there. I've gently pointed them in our direction, so don't be surprised at any delurkings that may come around (or not, we'll see how adventurous they are.)
Because if it's the girl part, they've got to be willfully ignoring the "angels are essentially genderless" issue.
I've read at least one poster bemoaning the cruel heteronormativity of the whole thing, which, really, fancy words for girl cooties in this particular scenario. Cas is really REALLY unlikely to be kissing a boy. That's just life. Suck it up.
Mostly, I think it's that he's kissing someone who's not Dean,
therefore
it's outrageous fanservice and pandering. People, please. Outrageous fanservice is the name of the game, and what goes around comes around. It's not the end of the world.
There's just about no one, I think, saying that they'd rather he'd have kissed Jo than Meg--I mean, those people aren't hissing and spitting crazily.
It's the weird air of entitlement, like Gamble has some responsibility to leave the way clear for the ship, when, seriously, ship is no less likely than it was a week ago.
And, oh, the names that she's being called. Slut, whore, all sorts of angry stuff.
And this is where people are just as skeevy as other people who happen to make tv. Seriously, I loathe the show's easy, breezy misogyny but it is a pretty fair reflection of the world in a lot of ways.
To be fair, Meg has always been Mistress of the Single Entendre since her reveal as a demon, so it's not quite as unfounded as pasting the "slut" label on someone like, say, Jo or Madison from "Heart" for having a mutual attraction with the Winchester of one's choice. Though a diversionary kiss while pickpocketing someone wouldn't be the best example to zero in on.
Well, the difference between Madison and Meg is that we know Madison had sex.
I laugh at all these people railing at Meg's slutty ways, where really, her sum total of sexual anything is talking dirty. Oh, big whorish tramp.
I'm not one of the people sensitive to the word bitch--I'd cheerily throw that in her direction. But in the contexts where I've seen slut and whore thrown at her it was pretty clear it was in a "get your hands off my OTP" sexual slur way.
