Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

Well, we're no longer ending episodes with the roadside emo sharing of pain and shedding of man tears, but now we've had several episodes in a row that end with Dean being assured that he is indeed a very special snowflake and that the fate of the entire world is in his hands. I suppose I should give up on the hope that we'll ever return to the Brothers Winchester, shoulder-to-shoulder, taking on the evil and snarking at each other dynamic, shouldn't I? I'm not saying that Jensen Ackles hasn't been wonderful with the material he's been given, but I never was drawn into The Dean Show, I was pulled in by the brothers fighting their way back towards each other and bonding. Sadly, Sam seems to be almost completely marginalized now.

vanguard of the socialist Hollywood liberal homosexualist agenda

Okay, so Zach did say, "You get to save people. Maybe even save the world." That sounds pretty anti-Apocalypse.

Yep, Zachariah gave Dean memories of people who actually do care about him. He gave Sam the memory of a woman he tried to save and then failed and feels tremendous guilt about it, and then had to kill. (sucky grammar, but you get my point.) Although I did have to snort at Sam calling and reaching an Animal Hospital. Zachariah could at least have given him Sarah, a happy memory. (I'm assuming that back in the real world, both Dean and Sam will remember their lives within Dean's Object Lesson.) And neither one of the guys mentioned John or Mary.

And the deputy mayor of Sunnydale was in this episode! Seems to be the week for sighting Buffyverse alum on various shows.

I was just happy we had proof that someone on the writing staff remembered Jo and Ellen existed.

I found this episode dreadfully anvilicious. It was funny, though. But the hammering away on how Winchesters are Better than office drones got a bit old.

And I really didn't like the security guy dying in the elevator and Sam making a crack about taking the stairs. ::twitches::

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Sam was much of the emotional driver for this episode--he just doesn't need as much selling as Dean. But he did the dragging this ep, and I think it came off well. They just haven't struggled together so much.

I liked this. I found it fun. Rice milk lattes! Prius.

Oh, the Prius and the NPR was a kick.

Still, given Dean's usual diet, I bet three weeks on a low-fat cleansing binge probably did him some good. *g*
