Actually, I read an AU BB D/C yesterday (Play It All Night Long) that wasn't that bad by janie_tangerine. English isn't her first language and her Castiel was typically AU OOC, but I liked the line of business she picked for Dean. It was interesting. And sweet.

And I'm reading a gen casefile by like_a_raven (Cabinet of Curiosities) that has a nice S2 vibe. It's no Apocalypse Z, but what is? That rocked.

I didn't finish the horrible hateful heteronormative D/C, but I read opinions on it, and apparently it kept getting worse. Heaven forfend.

I just finished Play It All Night Long this morning. It had me hitting up Youtube for several references. I found her Cas OK, if not dead on, but her Gabe really didn't work for me. Still, her Dean was pretty engaging, and the reader spends most of the time with Deans PoV, so that worked out pretty well.

I agree with your major OOC criticism, Calli. Also, Sam not awesome enough for me. But I'm getting pretty psycho-demanding about that one.

True. I didn't see anything in his past that would have led to that. Most of his other OOCness I wrote off to the whole AU not an angel thing.

It might have been nice if she'd found a way for Sam to be around more. I don't think he was in the plot enough to manifest a whole lot of awesome. And one of my favorite parts of the show is the day to day interaction of the brothers, which just didn't fit in with the story's plot .

Most AU Castiels are lower in the social ranking than Dean, and play on awkward!Castiel. He gets woobified too often, IMO. rockstarpeach has a BB AU where Castiel is a big time businessman, which is an interesting flip, but he's also kinda an asshole, and the character interactions kinda don't make sense--I mean Castiel sleeps with Sam and Dean sleeps with Gabe and we still get happily ever after. Hello?

At the very least, some of the HS/college AUs make him an older student, which balances things out a bit. But too much with the broken. Canon Castiel is a badass who doesn't need anyone's pity, and not really even anyone's sympathy (empathy, on the other hand, much fun). I'd like to see more AUs reflect that.

On a random note, any time someone referes to Gabriel as Gabe, I think Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship, and then my brain goes to a very odd SPN/bandom cross-over place.

And in other news, there is a guy who looks like he could be JDM's brother sitting in the lounge area here in my building. I am keeping an eye out for demons.
