Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?
[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.
Fleshflutter's great. I love her stuff, that which passes my filters.
I understand daddy!kink stories, but that doesn't mean I'll read John/Dean. They are two very different things. That's NOT my John, and that squick runs far deeper than Sam/Dean. Far deeper.
fleshflutter is a gorgeous writer. She wrote a horrorish story with Sam, Dean, Jess, and Madison that blew me away. Tiny little thing, but major chills.
Daddy!kink I get, as long as it's not with your daddy. For me, anyway.
And yeah, not ever my John. No way, no how. Or anyone's parent, really. I guess it's the power imbalance that freaks me out there. Sibling stuff I have to take case by case, and really I've only ever read Sam/Dean, although I know River/Simon is out there.
Dean having a sublimated obsession with his father? Hello, issues==subscription. I can dig that, with good writing. Just...don't let him get explicit about it, and don't get John actually involved.
The Dobby I've read was Daddy!kink, and it freaked me out, but it made twisted sense. So incredibly sad.
I've never read any Vampire Diaries sibling stuff, but I have no problem with the premise (though I'm still startled they're using it in their marketing). Wincest, hodgeberry love, Petrellicest? Maybe it's because they're actually alive and not evil and all sorts of other things, but no can do.

Yeah, I have an incest squick, but Vampire Diaries sibling stuff doesn't phase me at all. Of course, I kinda ship Damon/anyone, so I may be biased.
I've only read fic in the Angel and Supernatural fandoms. In Angel there wasn't a sibling or even family really to ship. So Supernatural is where I first encountered the sibling love. I avoided the Sam/Dean stuff initially but my quest for good fic led me there. There are some amazing writers in the Supernatural fandom and many write Sam/Dean.
There aren't any other shows or fandoms I can currently say I'd accept crossing over that sibling line, not even the Petrellis when I watched Heroes. For me, it seems to be unique to the construct of Sam and Dean and the way they were raised.
I pointed and laughed at the Petrelli chemistry onscreen, because the physicality of the entire family looked incredibly dodgy. Peter and Nathan were always all over each other, and the chemistry between Claire and Peter was way inappropriate. Even Mama Petrelli, sometimes. It was an Italian thing, said TWOP.
But that was just pointing and laughing. No interest in reading, or even thinking about in any detail (not that I've read much Heroes fic--just by accident (uh, it happens, leave me alone)).
There's only so much or certain types of broken that I can appreciate in my entertainment. Whatever it takes to get Sam and Dean to Sam/Dean isn't it. Especially since they seem to be
happy
about it so much of the time. It's not happy. It's BROKEN. I just can't get away from that read of it. And it's too broken for me to make peace with.
Other types of broken I work with, though.
Ooh, does anyone have a link handy for the story where the group of teen girls decide to dabble in the occult and accidentally bring John back from Hell? And wasn't it written by one of the Buffistas?
It was, by Holli.
here you go!

This is why we call you Files & Records, you know. Thank you!

EXACTLY.
I have to admit when I first realized Wincest existed, I was appalled. But ... there's something about the two of them and their dynamic that makes it work for me (with many exceptions), and I can even buy happiness if it's hard-won.
I guess I could see the same dynamic with River/Simon, but even there ... there's more of a power imbalance, at least in my head. Also, pregnancy risk, which NO.
But I also don't get why people write always-a-girl! Sam or Dean, or anyone. I can see gender-switching as a spell or whatever, but I like Sam and Dean as is when it comes to permanently.
I just totally changed topics without meaning to, but there you go.
