Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

"Does you fic have Teh Dean? It need Teh Dean!"
Dude, that's my fic mantra. Followed closely by Teh Sammeh. But Teh Dean is just about mandatory.
I ... have a hard time picturing Dean mending *now* although I like that he was doing it as a kid.
I'm totally down with that shit. I'm filing it with the laundromat, and the concerts and the starwatching--only we just haven't seen it yet. They must go through such heavy damage. They can't toss everything that gets ripped, or wear everything as rakishly as the jeans (does Sam wear torn jeans, or just Dean?).
Cooking Dean is the win. I prefer fics where he's decent at it, even if he doesn't go crazy often. The idea where he's been reheating Sam's entire life is completely depressing. But maybe my momma spoilt me.
I don't recall having bumped into Cooking Sam, and he does mention he cooked for himself during The Children Are Our Future. I'm assuming this is when John and Dean were hunting.
Yeah, I don't see Dean as a gourmet, but I like to think he could at least put decent burgers together, make spaghetti and even doctor a jar of sauce with some of his own spices. He for sure knew how to make good eggs and bacon.
In my head, there's one summer where got stuck home with Sam for about six weeks because Sam had broken his ankle, and actually experimented with making pie, too.
experimented with making pie
I want to read this!
There's a D/C fic I don't remember if I bookmarked where Castiel decides to cook for Dean because he remembers Jimmy valuing home cooking and he thinks Dean never had it, and Sam's helping out and Dean catches them and takes over the whole thing with exasperation.
I figure he can put together meatloaf and fried chicken and stuff like that. Staples. Those are staples, right? I never had them growing up.
Baking Dean is love and makes me think of Dark Side Of The Moon. It's absolutely something he'd never take the time to do...but, yeah, the idea of him having experimented is adorable.
Meatloaf I can see, and cake from a mix (with canned frosting), but fried chicken is sort of a process and not easy to do well the first time out. (Um, I am also afraid of frying things in oil, which pyro!Dean probably wouldn't be.)
If you didn't bookmark the fic you mentioned, well ... you get a demerit.
Well, we know he knows how to jury rig a ham. Improv food.
I think there might have been something about Castiel's characterisation that prevented me from bookmarking it. I don't see anything in my bookmarks that looks like it. And google is incredibly unhelpful with the whole "dean castiel lasagna" thing. But if I stumble on it again, I'll toss it your way.
I appreciate that you Googled "dean castiel lasagna" just for us, though.
I remember that fic too ita. I remember Dean taking over in the kitchen was bittersweet as it brough back memories of trying to get by with the few supplies for food they had to cook when they were kids or something like that.
I don't have a link though maybe you linked it here before? Much if not all of the D/C I have read was linked here.
ehab, that sounds like the one. It wasn't in my consolidated rec post, though. How annoying! I thought I was being better about taking notes--if I rec something here, it should be bookmarked.
Now I need to read it again to see what I'm thinking was wrong with the Castiel. Perhaps too humanly effusive/emotive. A few writers give him access to understanding via Jimmy's memories, but that's a fanon choice I think is ripe for sloppiness.
I'd rather see Castiel the angel start handling human things than take a short cut. Given some of the really disappointing stuff I've read recently, many writers seem to want to hop right to the schmoop, and just coincidentally name these guys Dean and Cas.
Has anyone read the post-apocalyptic D/C with a kid fic from this year's big bang? I confess I enjoyed it.
