Because books.

The GED reveal was in the first ep of S5, when he's giving his hoorah speech in Bobby's hospital room.

I would love some good wee!Chester or teen!Chester fic that doesn't overly sentimentalize them, and definitely more that addresses Dean *outside* of his role as Sam's brother.

There's one fic where it's strictly Dean's ... answers to an essay question? Or possibly something his teacher makes him write as a consequence, and it's so excellent. Every possible aspect of teen!Dean is there, including his cleverness. I'll have to look for the link.

I can't find it! Maybe Plei or Perkins or Bev knows.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I can dwell in Dean as Sam's brother forever. Those years seem impossible for me, so I love reading about them.

A GED and a go get 'em attitude. That's our boy.

I think of him as unhealthily primarily obsessed with Sam that whole time, so for fic to reflect it...what have I tagged recently?

Sam and Dean in detention, by apocalypsos was just read today. This one's cute and John-centric, but all about the boys.

I've tagged precious little of the stuff. My main consumption of it was before I started tagging.

Just read the John-centric one and this line made me guffaw. The principal when talking to John thinking:

Good Lord, it's genetic.

Adorable.

Holy crap, the notes in the detention one! Bwah! That's the kind of stuff I absolutely melt over.

And the champion for season 3?

Sam: Yeah, because I've been following you around my entire life. I mean, I've been looking up to you since I was four, Dean. Studying you, trying to be just like my big brother. So, yeah, I know you. Better than anyone else in the entire world. And this is exactly how you act when you're terrified. And, I mean, I can't blame you. It's just...
Dean: What?
Sam: It's just, I wish you would drop the show and be my brother again, 'cause... just 'cause.

So far we have 1 John quote, 1 Dean quote, and 1 Sam quote. Who'd'a thunk it?

Perhaps we'll end up with Bobby & Castiel quotes for S4 & S5.

Aw, I like that kind of symmetry.

Season 4, Round 1, Bracket #1/4:

Castiel: I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition.

vs

Sam: I'm infected with demon blood. You've been to Hell.

*****************

Ruby: This body is 100% socially conscious. I recycle. Al Gore would be proud.

vs

Castiel: You should show me some respect. I dragged you out of hell. I can throw you back in.

*****************

Chuck: I am the prophet Chuck!

vs

Dean: Sam loves research. He does. He keeps it under his mattress, right next to his KY. It's a sickness, it is.

*****************

Chuck: Well there is only one explanation. Obviously I'm a God. A cruel, cruel capricious god.

vs

Alastair: Don't you recognize me? Oh, I forgot -- I'm wearing a pediatrician.
