I am not...I am not the damsel in distress. I am not some case. I have to work this. I've lived in a cave for 5 years in a world where they killed my kind like cattle. I am not going to be cut down by some monster flu. I am better than that. What a wonder...how very scared I am.

I can see how making Dean, Lisa, & Ben an ideal little family works as a short-cut for storylines on the show.

  • It gives Dean a 'home' and a (not really) healthy outlet for love
  • It gives him people that he cares about that he does not want to put in jeopardy
  • It gives him a reason to resist hunting
  • It gives show built-in angst when Sam comes back

I hope show doesn't do it, but I won't be surprised if they do.

Because books.

I think they're going to have to carry it out somehow. They established him there, not just getting a hug but sitting down to dinner. So even if it's just an episode or maybe two, they're going to need to show why/how he disentangles himself from the ready-made family.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Just as long as it's not twoo wuv. I'm willing to accept it was love with Cassie, that Sam might have fallen in love with Madison with more time, that Sarah could have turned into something real, but for some reason, I'm totally skeptical about Lisa. Just too pat.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Is it possible it was the best night of Dean's life too? I'm totally OK with love at first sight.

Bendiest = Dean's definition of love?

But he never said it was love. He said it was the bendiest sex he'd ever had. Canon seems to say either he's never been in love or he's only been in love with Cassie. Plugging her in to love because the sex was good and she has a son that's like him and she takes him in...that's not love at first sight. That's love at third sight. It's love at sight of domesticity.

It's creepy.

Possibly I'm stretching too much but if Chuck can be God Dean can be in love and just not willing to admit anything beyond bendiness.

But Show a) admitted that Dean was in love with Cassie, and hasn't actually done the work with Lisa. She's been pretty clearly shown as the ideal of domesticity. I don't doubt they might take the shortcut and make that equal true love. I still reserve the right to think it creepy, because of said work undone.

Oh, me too. I think because they showed him there, though, they're going to have to show him leaving, although Show has not always followed the rules of storytelling before (Hi, we're suddenly on an airplane).

I think for him admitting that when he thought of himself as settled down with a family, it would be with her is a lot different than the *reality* of being settled down with her, especially in these circumstances. I think in whatever brief fantasies he may have entertained previously, Sam was also settled somewhere, or at least happy doing something meaningful to him. This is far, far different.

I in no way believe Dean is in love with Lisa or family life, or views Ben as anything more than the kind of kid he might have had, once upon a time. I think he's in his own hell, and even though I'm just basing it on an expression and the whiskey with dinner, I'm sticking with it.
