Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Socks are a running theme throughout the series. They are used as symbols of freedom, redemption and love.

I don't think anyone else would call me blond.

I would! Your complexion fuels the illusion, in the same way that my sister Nora's colouring keeps making people think she's a redhead.

Good morning, all!

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Hey Hive Mind!

I'm in the process of filing a FMLA complaint against my former employers. My Department of Labor rep called me and said that they need to know how much the surgery would cost in order to determine damages.

So I call my doctor. Well, there is one price for cash and one for insurance. And if he did it independantly (and not with the group I was seeing him through so please don't tell them he said this) the cash price would be different again. And then there is the surgery center or the hospital blah blah blah.

Do we know of a list of such things by state maybe? Or averages? Or something?

This is fun whole other way in which health care is screwed up. Maybe the first step in reducing costs is figuring out what the living hell they are.

Fergawdsakes, fire alarm. In the rain.

A lot of people have bad hair and a hate on for the construction now.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Great post, Allyson.

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I need to shower and get dressed and get to the office to grade papers. I don't feel like getting off the couch. The couch is comfortable. And grading papers is boring.

information libertarian

Trudy, if you need a standard, you might look up to see what Medicare reimburses for the procedure. Aside from that, I don't think there are any pricing standards.

Wonderful article (accessorized with an adorable astronaut)! My mother is a departmental secretary (for Microbiology and Immunology) - three cheers for support staff who love science.
