Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I am listening to friendly squabbling between my husband and my in-laws. I'd rather be reading yuletide.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'm lying in bed, reading Yuletide and eating leftover Thai food. My mom's trying to get me to be social and watch House with her, but I'm tired of being social and need some alone time.

Always Anti-fascist!

It's never lupus, Hil's Mom. It looks like it, but it never is.

Hee.

It seems like she's given up on getting me to be social. She switched over to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

Leftover Thai food is yum. I also had a bit of leftover Chinese food, and tonight we're going out for Indian food, so I'm getting the whole Asian spectrum.

I haven't yet had soufganiyot or gelt this year. I asked my dad to get me a jelly donut when he went to Dunkin Donuts for coffee this morning, and he returned with a croissant. Which is good, but not a donut.

“Not dead yet!”

We had the holiday meal on the early side this year, which, in my mind, is absolutely perfect as it allows time for naps before true dessert. (We had brownies that we made for Santa that were the teaser dessert.)

The sweet potato latkes were a MONSTER hit-- soooo good and I think I've now been requested to make them for any and all holidays, whether they involve oil or not.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

one of the things I got Matt was a level 6 'fiendish Japanese Pocket puzzle'. He has been playing with it while video chating with his family. Solved in two hours. It was supposed to occupy him for days.

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

We've had a pleasant Christmas so far. We came over from to hotel to ND's family for presents around 9 and since then have been chatting and puttering. I made hot mulled cider and took the turkey out of the brine (which it's been marinating in since last night) and prepared it for roasting, a la Alton Brown. It's now stuffed with fresh rosemary and sage, a sliced apple, and a sliced onion. ND's sister made a delicious stuffing separately and then put some of it into the cavity; the rest will go into the oven about a half hour before the turkey is ready. Yum. Meanwhile, she's making a green bean casserole and other side dishes.

I should really be grading exams (I'm paying for not working on any of it last week), but for now I'm just going to be lazy. My mom and gram should be landing soon, and I'm hopeful I can see them later this afternoon.

Anyway, happy happies to all!
