'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Someone needs to play that church "Harper Valley PTA" stat.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Aren't the originally apres-surf shoes from Australia?

My righteous indignation will be far less righteous (but no less indignant) if this turns out to be true. OH NOES!

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Possibly my favorite headline on the "Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler" cake debacle. [link] (Don't read the comments. There are a few neo-Nazi trolls who frequent that blog.)

“Not dead yet!”

I read another article that mentioned they'd finally gotten the cake of their dreams at... Wal-Mart.

Why am I not surprised?

They'd had this same issue with the same ShopRite before. The ShopRite had also refused to make a "Happy Birthday JoyceLynn Aryan Nation" cake and to decorate a cake with swastikas. On those occasions, too, they went to Wal-Mart.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Hec, my MiL has several antique doll houses. She has let the kids play with some of the less valuable dolls and furniture for a couple years. Now that Franny is all of 5 she has decided that the girl is old enough that she can play with one of the houses too; it's from the 1870s or so.

So, um, 4 or 5?

So basically, we're just looking for publicity and expecting that the American public is too stupid to realize it. Because really, we just wanted them to have names that no one else in the world did.

Oy.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I got a big Victorian Wooden Dollhouse when I was 30? But it was mostly because I was dying for one when I was 6-8 yrs old.

I was gonna say 40+, because I STILL covet a big Victorian Wooden Dollhouse. Not that I have anywhere to put one, or the time to lavish on such a hobby. But still. Wanty.

Somebody please remind me that I have better things to do with my time tonight than argue with biblical literalists.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Somebody please remind me that I have better things to do with my time tonight than argue with biblical literalists.

I was reminded on Ta-Nehisis Coates's blog today that reason #1 for rejecting a biblical argument against gay marriage is that polygamy and concubines and all the rest were A-OK in biblical times and communities. Argh.
