Weirdly enough, watching DLM makes me understand the people that didn't like Jaye in Wonderfalls a bit more, although I still really like her.

What do you mean, ita? I watched S1 of DLM so I think I'm missing the other piece of why that would help one understand the unlikeableness of Jaye.

I suspect the one episode of House that I should never see is coming on.

I'm super behind on House. How come this one is a watch-from-the-hall?

In the past few years, I am all about escapist, romance or not. I used to read a lot more tragic-realist and nonfiction, and while I still enjoy it, I can't cope with mainlining it like I used to . Seriously, for one birthday, I think I rented Farwell to Sarajevo, Year of Living Dangerously and Three Kings. And then would read Black Tulip, Bookseller of Kabul and Kite Runner as a chaser. While reading Black Lamb and the Grey Falcon and a treatise on the Kurds and some Allende at lunch. OK, not quite with the reading right then but the film trio is true and the books are ones I group mentally. A lot of war and trauma.

Past few years, I can't. I have to have a lot more stuff that I rationally think "doesn't happen ever" that I consume. And that's fine. It doesn't set unrealistic expectations for me...but I was probably warped by what I read when I was a preteen.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I could see the similarities between Jaye and George, and I think George is way less likeable. The similarities in the shows brought it out.

But I still like Jaye, and I like Wonderfalls way more than DLM.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I am a big fan of romantic comedies, but like Barb said, Fantasy. Not real. and that is the point. Plus, I like them to be of their time. No forced/fake marriages of convenience if it supposed to take place now. ok, bride and prejudice takes place now -- but culturally contextual.

I like Wonderfalls much more too. The whimsy is what worked for me.

I like romantic comedies, and I like heartbreaking realities too. But I need a break from both or else I go crazy.

Also, let's talk about how cute the Baby hippo is!

I don't so much do romcom except in print. But then I'm now struggling to recall the last movie I saw....Charlie Wilson's War maybe? Last xmas?

I love hippos. Baby ones are really cute. Though I have a fear of them after seeing what a dead one accomplished on a trail in Zambia. Whoa. But I still am bitter over the loss of my pink stuffed hippo my dad gave me when I was wee. I lost it coming back from Prague in '97. Dad's given me multiple little pink hippos since then as consolation, but I miss my wee pink hippo with matted fur and red yarn smile.

Our wings are not tired.

My favorite "romantic comedies" are either in black and white, written by Woody Allen (esp. Annie Hall and Manhattan) or have baseball involved (Bull Durham).

I can't think of one exception!

If Tom Hanks or Meg Ryan or Billy Crystal is in it, it will make me puke my guts out.

Oh! I thought of one! Anything with Hugh Grant! Even the crap like that one with Drew Barrymore and he's an ex-boy band guy. Wait, thought of another one; Say Anything.

I guess my "exceptions" aren't too difficult to obtain.

Me too. But Pushing Daisies went too far for me.

If Tom Hanks or Meg Ryan or Billy Crystal is in it, it will make me puke my guts out.

When Harry Met Sally is top 5 for me. Charms the fuck out of me, every time.

I have to dress sans metal for the MRI. So, yoga pants, pull-on top, and I wonder if I have a sports bra with no fastenings or underwire.

“Not dead yet!”

Ah, java, you're breakin' my heart. When Harry Met Sally still holds a very fond spot in my heart and that's considering I completely abhor Meg Ryan. But she hadn't quite hit the saccharine levels of precious yet and I love Nora Ephron's script for that film.

Of course, it was also the movie that I saw on my first date with Lewis, so there could be that as well.

Oh, and Harry Connick doing the soundtrack. Okay, I'll stop now.

Never did like Tom Hanks as a rom com lead though. HATED him in that horrible remake of The Shop Around the Corner-- what was it? You've Got Mail? BLEARGH.

Still-- he's a space geek. That wins him points back.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Dagnabbit, I forgot to put in the cinnamon! And the pan is still hot, but I had to wrap it up so I could go to bed. If this is a disaster, I am le screwed for the office potluck. Meh.
