Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Poor Laura Bush looks so dowdy in those pictures.

1. Why tell me about the great Depression, PBS?

2. Why is it that the situation before the Great Depression seem so much like our situation now?

I was watching that last night, too, and had the same reaction. Housing boom followed by big-time crash? Check! Twenty-some years since the last market crash (1987)? Check! The money getting concentrated in the hands of a few? Check! Everyone else thinking that they could make it rich just as easily as "the few" did? Check! Everything on credit/margin? Check!

Sort of like how I greet my brother with "HEY DORK!" but, you know, classier.

Hee--this reminds me of Rachel Maddow yesterday. After she mentioned that the Obamas got Secret Service code names, she said, "My code name is 'Dork-nozzle.'" I loves me some dorky Rachel!

Shit's all sorts of different now.

As I've heard her called Dumpy McQueen.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

This pic, Steph? [link]

Nope; it's taken facing them, rather than from the side, and Obama is in mid-step, and he's just all lanky and loose -- he actually reminds me of Michael Jordan, in terms of his physicality, now that I think of it.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Dean is stepping down as chairman of the DNC.

And then we'll get a World War.

My Dad recently read a book (has he gotten me the title yet? Goodness no) showing the "financial collapse/depression/big fucking war" pattern back to the 1400s or something.

I met one of my favorite jewelry designer (well, other than friends Gurhan is my only jewelry designer of love) at a trunk show last week and we ended up talking politics. As one does. He was saying that friends at home in Turkey and all over the world felt incredible relief at the election because we might just avoid World War III. As much as a depression would suck WWIII would be worse -- there are still enough nukes floating around that WWIV would involve flaming sticks and trebuchets... ::looks around frantically:: THAT IS NOT ACTUALLY A GOOD THING PEOPLE!

It's true. I've always had a weird affection for her, too, but lithe she is not.

I like her, too, but Jeebus woman. DO NOT let your Mother in Law dress you!! It's like no one ever cleared out the Elder Barbara's closet in the Residence and Laura has just been picking through. She needs Clinton and Stacy.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Obama is in mid-step, and he's just all lanky and loose -- he actually reminds me of Michael Jordan, in terms of his physicality, now that I think of it.

He's got that touchy-feely thing that Michael has, too. In almost any shot of him with someone, he's reaching for them, or touching their shoulder or their back, or putting his forehead to theirs. It's interesting to see. (I liked the hand-on-arm thing he did when shaking W.'s hand, and then the double-hand clasp he did with Laura.)

Yes! That would be the BEST.
