I worked with the kid in 27's grandmother (whose son and grandson look remarkably like her!). As a result, large numbers of my former coworkers got to go backstage at Obama rallies.

Hey, I think that makes me 2 degrees from Obama!

Had a lovely dinner at the airport with my brother. Though discussion anthrax receptors in an airport restaurant is ...probably not somethting you should do everyday (the guy interviewing him works with anthrax relating to tumor suppression somehow. Cutting edge stuff.)

Anyway, as I was leaving, he says "Oh! Do your brakelights work?" Huh? Turns out some cars, when the brakelights quit, the dash lights go out. My dash is out.

Sure fucking enough, no fucking running or brakelights. How fucking long have I been driving around like this???

Anyway, tomorrow have to get up early, take cat to vet, take car to mechanics and hope they can FIX it and then pick up car and then pick up cat. Neither can really wait and I have a dentist appt weds morning.

Apparently, the universe thinks I am made of time and money and risk.

Apologies to all the people I've been driving around with NO FUCKING BRAKE LIGHTS.

Ahrg. I'm especially annoyed because if it is related, it is something my mechanic should have checked first thing when I brought it up several months ago. Normally, they're great, but this miss is scary.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

OMG sara, I am so glad your brother thought of/knew that. Scary.

I met with a new potential babysitter tonight, a woman from Ethiopia who recently lost her job at a hospital due to layoffs. She seems nice enough. She kept trying to speak Amharic to mac which, well no, he doesn't understand and he doesn't want the reminder. Then she also balked a bit at how much I offered to pay, seemed to think she could get the same hourly she did at her job, which again, no. One bonus is that she is also going to give me Ethiopian cooking lessons. YAY!

Freaks me right the hell out. ESPECIALLY after last night when I had a near collision with a deer at 75 mph. I'm still not sure how I missed that fucking thing (close enough the hood blocked half its legs from view and it was huge,) but had anyone been behind me...well, it would have been as bad as had I hit the deer. As it was, I have no idea how I missed the deer and the car next to me did too.

msbelle, I hope the babysitter works out!

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

What kind of car, sarameg? If the problem is just fuses or bulbs, it should be a pretty easy DIY fix.

sarameg - Nov 10, 2008 3:51:29 pm PST #503 of 10002

Nissan Sentra. When I first took it in for another issue, they SAID they checked all the fuses first, and it is on the invoice (no charge) so if I take it in and it something like that, I will be very cranky. (but cheaper?) And since it is ALL the parking and brake panel, plus the dash, but not reverse...I think it is more than bulbs.

msbelle, did you like the babysitter? Is this for mostly after school care?

Ugh. sara, that's scary! Just today we were talking about how we almost got into an accident at 3:00 PM because of lack of brake lights.

My students did performances of King Lear. Most groups did videos. They ROCK. I'll try and upload and link.
