I wanna die in bed surrounded by fat grandchildren, but guess that's off the menu.

“Not dead yet!”

Do you have a butcher or a Honeybaked Ham store anywhere near you, Kat?

Yep. There's a honeybaked ham not so far away. Will it cost a fortune?

Nope, not at all. And the nice thing is, they usually come with a nice chunk of meat on them, so you have plenty to flavor the soup.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Does Steph live in Cincinnati? Because I just read that Margaret Cho will be there Saturday, and will be joining the local Prop 8 protest and singing!

In MY city? I mean, that's awesome, but -- the HELL???

t edit Apparently she's in town for a stand-up show. Cool.

(Also, at the exact -- and I mean to the MINUTE -- time that the protest is supposed to happen, we have appointments to get our very very VERY stinky dogs bathed and groomed. This is going to be hard to juggle.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I am so tempted to make my FB status "is about to tell her son that it will fall off if he doesn't leave it alone."

Hey, that's private time!

Now tagless for your comfort.

I have split peas. I want to make split pea soup. I can't find a ham bone at any of the groceries I go to. What should I do?

My package of split peas came with a "ham flavoring" packet. I'm dubious but do not have a ham bone, either. I should remember to get one from the meat counter.

I tried a new breed of apple today--Haralson. It was yum!

Mmm.. you just reminded me. I have a honeycrisp in the fridge and a slab of extra sharp cheddar. however, I just weighed myself and I like the weight I am right now. I fear eating anything this late will make tomorrow's weigh in no fun.

Also debating buy or not buy: [link] I'm just not sure it would be necessary here. Though if we had an El Nino year like I keep hoping for it would be awesome to have this. (This babysteal will change tomorrow so the link is only good tonight).

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I can't find a ham bone at any of the groceries I go to.

Smoked ham hocks? Smoked hog jowls? Smoked turkey wings or legs?

The stores here all have those, but I live in the land of pork-flavored vegetables.

eta: There are also ham bullion cubes that are surprisingly realistic. They're usually with Mexican foods rather than with the soups here.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

When I was in college, our beer of choice was Abita. Preferably Purple Haze. (OK, I was the only one who liked the Purple Haze. Everyone else liked the boring varieties. But Purple Haze rocked!)

I had completely forgotten about Homefront. I used to love that show. They really should put it out on DVD or something.
