Now I can't get the wife home safe, What kind of caretaker am I????
Can't get her home safe yet. You've still got the caretaking going on.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

What kind of caretaker am I
a perfectly normal one. My sister came home drunk one time to find her boyfriend had injured himself and needed to be taken to the hospital. They had to call another friend to help them because she could not drive.
Yeah, pretty much not driving when you know you can't is the kind of care taking that... is.
you are taking care of her -- by not driving and keeping watch.
Care -taking is rarely the fun part.
Next time her turn. That is the way it works.
Crying cryingcrying
Also we know other buffistae and friends in the Los Angeles area who might not be posting right now but can be summoned with cell phones. Just say the word and the cavalry is on the way.

An excellent one. You're worrying about what you can do to watch out for her, but without taking stupid risks to do it. Bonus points.
The common joke about my mom's driving skills in the family is that she's not driving because she's a nurse, therefor supposed to keep the public safe and sound.

That.
Having the wisdom to know you are too drunk to drive is much better care-taking than what could happen if you didn't have it.
And by all that is holy, including your marriage, this is the way we prefer it - that you are sitting tight, talking through it, not driving home. Because it could have such an ugly ending, otherwise.
