Folks, it isn't looking good so far. I know we've only had the survey up for a day, but we've had 35 responses so far, and these are the results:
Yes 6
Probably 5
There's a small chance 7
No 17
If there's any chance you may be able to attend, please take the survey. I would say if we don't have a total of 25 (?) yes/probably responses, we may need to do something small and informal (maybe at someone's house?) this year. Either that or propose another weekend. Not sure. Open to suggestions, all.
My suggestion would be "a chill gathering that weekend".
It seems like a simpler course of action than "start over from scratch" and a better one than "chuck the whole thing."
I know I'm not a regular F2F attendee, but I think if we skip the big F2F for a year it's not a terrible thing. Maybe smaller, more local groups can have mini F2Fs instead.
I am a regular F2F attendee. I think it would suck.
What would be the point in not having a low-key one if there are even a dozen people who want to go ahead and do it?
That's weird. When I asked basically the same thing last month (is there enough interest?), there were a lot more "I can definitely come and am definitely interested" answers. What happened?
Perhaps more people were interested in Philly than Providence and removing Philly from the running changed interest levels.

What she said. I think we might need to scale down on prom, but I don't think scrapping it altogether is necessary.
I'm going to feel awful if there is no F2F this year. My biggest concern with low attendance would be spending the 800 on food and drink for the prom. If enough Somervillians attend the prom even if they don't stay at the hotel, it should help toward that number. If the numbers would significantly improve on a different date, would could think about changing it. Otherwise, I think we should book it. If I end up being on the hook for some of the costs, I can live with that.
I can't go, so take this suggestion as just that...a suggestion.
If it's a small group, would it be possible to just go out somewhere, a restaurant or bar, for the prom instead of having it at the hotel? That would save a lot on costs.
Also, would a hospitality room be necessary with a small group?
