Oh hey, just a note to ask people to also use email if there are Bay Area gatherings happening. I'm also in the SF Bay Area. Happy to be a tour guide around Marin also, if anyone has the time or interest.

Plan what to do, what to wear (you can never go wrong with a corset), and get ready for the next BuffistaCon.
How crazy would it be to vacation in New Orleans in July? I generally deal with heat pretty well.
It'll be really hot and humid. If you wear glasses, they'll fog up every time you go outside. It's cooler at night, so planning things around that can be useful.
It depends how much you plan to walk around outside. If you're in the Quarter, it's actually designed to give you some shade, at least. Uptown/Garden District is pretty shady. But yeah, like Hil said, it'll be hot.
The other thing about New Orleans in summer is the occasional unpredictable hour-long torrential downpour. I was there in June for a conference and spent an hour waiting for it to stop raining enough so I could go to my next destination (I had an umbrella, but this was the sort of rain where that's almost no use.)
I went to New Orleans in the summer once for a cousin's wedding. I would not recommend it, particularly if you're going to be pushing a 200 lb. man in a wheelchair over French Quarter sidewalks. That Jazz Festival in the spring is much more my speed.
These things are all true. Other things to consider - you can easily spend a day or more in the WWII museum, if that's your thing. Umbrella is a must for shade or sun. Don't recommend touring St. Louis #1 cemetery in the summer - it's rumored to be the hottest place in the city and having worked there in summer I believe it. There will be fewer tourists; there's still generally a festival or two every weekend.
It's a whole 'nother level of hot and humid down here, and I'm a longtime Southerner. But if you do visit, there's me and Nora and maybe even Tom to hang out with!
The Aquarium's another good air-conditioned place.
I'm also looking at Denver possibilities. Or I may do a stay-cation and save up for an international trip later.
Considering what has happened to Big Sur since I vacationed there, NO may not want me.
DC-istas, I am in town June 20-28 for my annual workshop, which has moved to June. Free all day Sunday June 25 - I have still not been to the Renwick or the Building Museum, so those are top of my list.
