Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

There have been a few legal challenges to airbnb in New York, too. I'm not sure what the current status is.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

It's all controversial down here right now, regular B&Bs and hotels are pissed. Plus, technically it's illegal.

It's in a legal grey area pretty much everywhere.

Punishingly Intricate

We've had great experiences with airbnb & VRBO in New Orleans, San Juan, and Vancouver. I understand why the hotels and such would be pissed about those services but, as a consumer, they can be pretty awesome.

Yeah, I get why hotels are pissed, and neighbors too, but even beyond the cost issue, when you're somewhere for a week, having a kitchen is key.

and neighbors too,

Oh, yeah, this too in some situations.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

even beyond the cost issue, when you're somewhere for a week, having a kitchen is key.

I loved having a whole cottage (and then an apartment) for our honeymoon, precisely because it meant we could cook instead of needing to go out for every meal (even though we went out for quite a few). And it was nice to have room to spread out. We found our places through VRBO.

(And if anyone ever goes to Mendocino, I unreservedly recommend the place we stayed, as long as you don't mind not having a TV. [Oddly enough, there is wifi.])

Yeah, and also since there will be three of us--it'd be kid of obnoxious to pay for two hotel rooms, but I can't see us all sharing one for a week.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

regardless of the format, my neighborhood recommendations are Marigny and the Lower Garden District. Marigny is sort of in the middle of everything, with the FQ on one side and Bywater on the other. Lots and lots of restaurants, bars, clubs.

LGD is Uptown, which I think is awesome (it's the area where I live, and I think it's the shit), and if you stay on or between St. Charles and Prytania, you're close to the St. Charles streetcar/bus to go further uptown or downtown into the CBD/Warehouse District/FQ.
