There are many places I disagree with Obama--but I will not argue with hope
Oh, beth, I love the way you put it.
In my case, it's less a matter of agreeing or disagreeing, but rather of being ignorant of way too many of the issues, and, um, of course, being from a completely different country. But still.
Hey, does anyone know why Daily Kos and the Guardian are still being coy about Georgia? That's a pretty definite margin with almost all the precincts in, I would've thought.
I'm sooooo excited about Obama, but looking at the rest of the stuff, I am so terribly dismayed at all the state ballot measures about gay people that are looking like every single one went badly. Even Prop 8 is not looking good. Even shit that isn't about marriage like letting gays adopt children. All that hate makes me want to cry. Putting that stuff in constitutions makes me want to cry. And I'm trying to remind myself that there have been such strides, and that heck, maybe in another generation we'll have a gay president! :) But in the meantime, there are so many people I love and care about who got married (including Buffistas!) in California, and it seemed like such a possibility. Like such strides were being made. Like it was moving forward without the two steps back. Like someday soon, I might be able to marry someone I love in my choice of *many* states, not just one or two.
Sorry for the late night dismay. But....damnit! Come on, California! When I wake up, I want good news!!!
And in non-political daily affairs, according to the Buffista Calendar, today is CaBil's birthday.
Happy birthday, CaBil! With lots of wishes for a great day and a wonderful year.
what happened with prop 8??? I'm insomniooggling and I can't find anything.
Happy bday ca bill!
My sister left me an email from the future last night (it's tomorrow in NZ already): "congratulations! Guess we won't need to pick you guys up at the airport tomorrow after all. "
what happened with prop 8??? I'm insomniooggling and I can't find anything.
CNN has it passing 52-48, with 86% of precincts counted. The counties still being counted are trending Yes. It doesn't look good.
Happy birthday, CaBil!
I'm waiting to hear the news about prop 8 myself.

Sometimes my state saddens and disgusts me.
Here are some interesting comparisons on the electoral vote:
2000
Bush: 271
Gore: 266
Split of 5 electoral votes, with lingering dispute as to whether Bush actually won or not
2004
Bush: 286
Kerry: 252
Split of 34 electoral votes
2008 (incomplete returns)
Obama: 349
McCain: 159
Split of 190 electoral votes with only 30 left in play.
