Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Aww, I'm kinda touched by some of the entries in the Phoenix Mission twitter epitaph contest:

Those are surprisingly moving.

Dear gods what is wrong with this country?

Nothing that can't be fixed by what's RIGHT with this country!!!! (Dear gawd, there is hope in my heart!)

My Sister is at a call center in Jersey and three times last night they spoke to people who'd been robocalled that Democrats were voting on Wednesday because of the lines. I was on the phone with one of the poll observers on leave from my office and she spoke of similar shenanigans in Western PA.

I voted pretty quickly. I had to use a paper ballot (and this was probably my last chance EVAH to use the ka-CHUNK machine!) because I'd moved recently and their books weren't updated. I got to vote for Charlie Rangle which was a treat. It all went smoothly, the line at the Starbucks was longer.

And then I cried like Laura when I walked out and realized that every single poll worker had been Black or Latino. When my Mom was a child in the South there wouldn't have been Black people even working the election nevermind WINNING THE FUCKER. It made me think of those brave souls who did jump all the hurdles of poll taxes and absurd requirements to vote, and how they were greeted by hostile white faces when they did. We are so very very blessed.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Ugh. I just saw a nasty anti-O add and it wasn't even an "I am John McCain and I approve this message." It was some Republican PAC that was "responsible for the content." Ugh, ugh, ugh. Shows you how desparate the GOP is getting.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I just got my free cup of coffee. You know, I could have gotten my free coffee at a Starbucks, but no; I decided to support this cool independent coffee shop... by, um... getting their stuff for free....

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It does make me nuts when people talk like President is the only thing to vote for. So many things to vote for, people!!

Woah, Sophia! I hope that works out well for you.

ETA- I am so shocked that I signed my post!!!

Also, this made me laugh.

From Dan Savage: This Freaked Me Out

Freaked me out too. I mean, I get the point, but still, it seems wrong....

From Pollster.com: [link]

They have 'No' on Prop 8 ahead of 'Yes', 50.0% to 45.4%.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Also, I'm amused at the picture of the GOP hiring fake Republicans to go around canvassing while remembering my dad and the Obama canvasser last weekend reminiscing about being former Republicans.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I saw a 527 pro-Obama ad yesterday that used Paul Simon's "American Tune," which matched perfectly with what I was thinking when I heard that very same song just last week. The lyrics seem to speak to today's challenges, and the ad picked images to go with both the hardships and the hope ("I don't know a dream that's not been shattered / Or driven to its knees" with pictures of foreclosed houses and food pantries).

I voted!

And I also seem to have busted my left foot somehow. I hope the Ibuprofen I just downed does some good, because otherwise I'll have to take a cab home.
