We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I had a chance to vote for Rob Sherman (probably the most famous atheist in the country) for state representative, but I declined.

The View From Your Election: Dartmouth College

A reader writes to Sullivan:

Those who are wondering if the youth will turn out ought to see what I saw this morning.

One well-known government professor here told me that she has never seen so many students vote in the first hour of voting as she saw this morning. And I've never seen so many students up and alert at this hour. They're normally stumbling out of bed to make it to their 10 a.m. courses. Today, the campus has been buzzing for hours this morning. It appears that many of them decided to go to the polls as groups of twos, threes, fours and more when the polls opened at 7 a.m. The number of students I saw by 8 a.m. walking around with "I voted" stickers on is astonishing.

At breakfast, I sat next to a table of four black students, all of whom had voted. The three men were wearing ties. I asked them why. The answer: It was their first election, and they wanted to mark the occasion.

I've been amazed at how many kids had shouted pro-Obama things to me these last few months....

Punishingly Intricate

I think I am going to treat myself to lunch at the Charcoal Pit after I vote (not the One True Charcoal Pit, though - I have a closer one now.)

LUCKY! That's where I had lunch on my birthday! At the One True.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

OK - The VA fraud fliers and emails PISS ME OFF SO MUCH - No charges PISSES ME OFF EVEN MORE. This is the email for the Informational Officer of the VA State Police: questions@vsp.virginia.gov.

This is a NATIONAL ISSUE, so everyone in the country has a valid reason to email them demanding that charges be pressed. If you know people in VA, think about emailing them to voice outrage. If you have a blog that gets readers, maybe post the email also. The phone number in case you want to file a complaint that way is: Phone: (804) 674-2000

I look more rad than Lutheranism

My fantasy is that they will have called it for Obama by the time we land, but I'm pretty sure that won't happen.

Even if it looks like a landslide (which I doubt it will be, popular vote-wise), the networks can't call it too early because they want viewers glued to their coverage all night.

Which is why I'm going to have the TV on and keep obsessively refreshing fivethirtyeight.com, b/c they're going to have "live" returns threads going all night.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Lovely (possibly allergy-inducing) essay from "the dreaded swing voter": My Wife Made Me Canvass for Obama, and Here's What I Learned

Totally. The whole "It was just a joke" thing pisses me off too. Oh, so it's OK then? Call me cynical, but somehow I suspect it was not a joke, and that's just the lame-ass excuse they came up with once they were caught....

“Not dead yet!”

Nathan Bedford Forest? Jeez. It's not like it's even someone where they had to dig for unknown skeletons in the closet. That is so fucking wrong.

No shit. And the part about how the name was originally suggested by the Daughters of the Confederacy in protest of the Supreme Court's ruling for integration. Woot.

Gotta love the 1970 graduate, too, who was grumbling about erasing southern history. Lady, there are some aspects of history that while they shouldn't be forgotten, should sure as shit not be glorified.

Anyone remember the Comedy Central coverage of the '92 election? I'm pretty sure it was Jon Stewart who began their coverage with words to the effect: "At this point we are calling the election for Bill Clinton. Stay tuned for two hours of election coverage here on Comedy Central."
