I'm actually less anxious today than I was yesterday. Although the stories of shenanigans may change that. And trying to scare the elderly. grrrrr.

I got to my polling place at about 7:30 this morning and was done by about 8:10. Everything went very smoothly and there was a ridiculously cheerful poll worker telling jokes there.

We voted at 8:15 in the gym at the elementary school (no school) with no line. Seemed steady, though - 7 (Diebold) machines. Also, fully 50% of the county's voters voted early, so I'm not surprised it's slow this AM!

I am going to get no work done today. ok, not true. I have a meeting in 25 min. and I am going to enter invoices into a spreadsheet, but I am doing no Thinking work today.

I am going to be so emotional tonight - either way. voting with mac was emotional. I am super mad that our polling place does not give out "I voted" stickers. I thought I was going to get exit polled, but the pollers were only polling asian-american voters.

Bad timing to the max (and bad taste):

Perhaps the most ill-timed press release of the 2008 campaign arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m. today, sent by the Republican National Committee.

The release forwarded word that the California Republican Party filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, in part because of a visit Sen. Barack Obama made to his dying grandmother.

"Obama for America violated federal law by converting its campaign funds to Senator Obama's personal use," the release stated. "Senator Obama recently traveled to Hawaii to visit his sick grandmother. This was the right thing for any grandson to do -- at his own expense -- but it was not travel that his campaign may fund."

My place had no line, but I think that the places were set up before urban flight, becausethere are at least 4 within walking distance of my house!

Where I grew up there was one spot for the whole town; and it was the biggest town in the county!
