so sad about Obama's grandmother. I was really hoping she'd make it through tomorrow. At least he got to see her last week.
All of this.
My boyfriend Nate Silver does the Starbucks:Wal-Mart ratio when he's looking at states for tendencies. Edit: Sorry, those are the Sean Quinn posts on fivethiryeight, not the Nate Silver posts.

I love this. Especially when he got to Vermont, which went something like "Vermont doesn't actually have a Wal-Mart. And they only have like two Starbucks. This should not be considered a valid sample."
(But it's Sean, the other 538 guy, who does the state writeups.)
I am doing my voting homework can't decide on prop 5 -- someone must be exaggerating about something
Vermont doesn't actually have a Wal-Mart.
How unreal American can you get?

I did go back and edit. I should probably make it clear that it is the site itself that is my boyfriend, not actually Nate Silver. The reporting has been great, as is the photography!
OK, off to HQ.
How unreal American can you get?
That's just the thing, though -- no Starbucks either, practically! It's like they're into small businesses and local communities and crazy traitorous talk like that!
At least he got to see her last week.
That's what I keep thinking too. so sad.
Actually Vermont does have a Wal Mart, but I don't think there are very many.

Close call then, if they didn't have any then we'd have division by zero making Vermont a singularity in the fabric of American politics. It could suck all of New England down into a hole of liberal elitism that not even the photons of right wing radio could escape.

I believe there are two in the whole state. Or, at least that was the stat when I was teaching at Bennington. Bennington being one of the towns that caved.
ETA: There are apparently only 4 Starbucks: 3 in Burlington, and 1 in nearby Williston, aka the home of the other Wal-Mart.
