I watched a lot of cop shows in the '70s. So I guess NY and LA got covered. And I loved Emergency and liked CHiPs.
Happy Days taught me very little about Milwaukee. (Or was that in a suburb of Milwaukee?) Neither did Lavern and Shirley, but I was annoyed when they moved to LA.
And my impressions of Fantasy Island were largely informed by the TV show of the same name.
Oh, and Hawaii Five-O for Hawaii.
That's the danger of not being subbed to every thread. I'm invariably behind somewhere.
You're a bad board citizen!
GAZEBO!!!
New York - Saturday Night Fever, The Warriors, Interview (magazine), and The Rise and Fall of a Teenage Wacko
New York - I forgot - Family Affair (TV)
Paris - maybe Funny Face - can't recall where it's set
London - Mary Poppins
LA - no idea
Toyko - none
Rome - Roman Holiday
Berlin - none
I think there was a gidget movie set in Rome
Roman holiday I saw after I had been there
New York- Huh. I grew up just a couple of hours away, so I'm not sure if my first images of NYC came from a movie or television show. I think the first book I read that featured NYC was
A Cricket in Times Square,
though.
Paris- Aristocats, American in Paris, Gigi
London- Mary Poppins, Peter Pan (Disney cartoon version), Bedknobs and Broomsticks, A Little Princess (the Shirley Temple version)
LA- Singing in the Rain, LA Story
Rome- The Italian Job, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Much Ado About Nothing, The Wings of the Dove
Berlin- Cabaret, The Bourne Supremacy
Tokyo- Lost in Translation, without a doubt, and Godzilla
Australia- Crocodile Dundee (sorry, billytea!)
Australia- Crocodile Dundee (sorry, billytea!)
Mine was Skippy! Which was like Flipper but with a kangaroo.
OOh. I got a major impression of Australia from
Gallipoli.
Holy shit, I can't believe this baseball game.
Tampa's going to take its top prospect, #1 draft pick, stud rookie pitcher David Price and basically he's got to get an out and they'll go on to the World Series or it'll be over.
Well, actually he's got a little wiggle room and there's one more inning, but baseball doesn't work like that. It builds to a dramatic moment and that moment is here and they threw their youngest into the lion's den.
He'll be throwing 95 at J.D. Drew and we'll see what happens.
