Los Angeles- Sunset Boulevard, The Beverly Hillbillies
There's a spread.
::snicker:: I suppose it is. It's kind of funny though, looking at that list, to see how much of my early impressions of places were formed by big, lavish musicals set either at the turn or mid-point of the twentieth century.

London as My Fair Lady
Paris as Gigi
Is Yonkers close enough for New York to be Hello Dolly?
Dolly lives in New York proper and a lot of the action takes place in the city, including the parade and the restaurant scene near the end.
Funny Girl is also in NY, though further into the 20th century.
NY is clearly On The Town.
New york -- heck, I lived in white plains before I was 5--so we went there
LA -- Beverley hill billys , which if barb hadn't said it I wouldn't have known.
SF - 70's a neighbor's daughter (white ) was going out there with her new Husband ( black)
London oliver twist(movie)/mary popins
I'm all earwormed with "Desolation Row", as I just bought me an electric violin.
After doing bunches of research, I discovered there's a shitload of electric violins for ≈ $85, a bunch more for $100-$200, then almost nothing until $600 and up. After reading reviews of the cheaper ones, I decided to try to find a used example of the more expensive ones. I ended up finding a barely used Yamaha on eBay....
This Amazon listing has a good photo of a new one: [link] Mine is the same color (red and black).
New York: Miracle on 34th St. (the old one)
Paris: Probably some Marie Antoinette biographies I read as a kid. More recently, Amelie.
London: Can I say the whole punk and brit pop of the late 70's, early 80's.
Los Angeles: Play It As It Lays and all the non-ficiton Hollywood stuff by John Gregory Dunne
Tokyo: Godzilla
Rome: Fellini's La Dolce Vita
Berlin: Wings of Desire
I don't know if it's because I haven't had a bad cold in a long time but this is the worst cold I've had in ages.
I don't know if it's related to the cold, but immediately upon eating lunch,
I instantly threw it up.
This led to a headache I cannot shake, many burst blood vessels around and in my eyes, and a reluctance to eat anything for most of the day. On top of this I am feverish and congested. My mom called and she and my dad have the same cold, so I couldn't even whine to her. I have been having a pity party all day, by myself.
My view of LA definitely comes from Sunset Boulevard. And, to a lesser extent, Rebel Without a Cause.
New York - Roller Skates, The Saturdays
Paris - Madeline
London - Mary Poppins, E. Nesbit's
The Story of the Treasure Seekers, A Little Princess,
Sherlock Holmes
Los Angeles - Dragnet

SF - Summer of Love news coverage, "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair," McMillan & Wife (Anyone remember Rock Hudson pursuing a suspect over SF hills on a bicycle?)
