"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Happy Birthday Calli!

Happy Birthday Burrell!

DH walked downstairs and asked me what the noise was. He has this thing about nail clipping so most of the time I clip them outside. Um, MIDNIGHT--NOT going on the porch to clip my fucking toenails. He snapped at me then went back upstairs.

Oh, HELLS no. Nail clipping's not the most glamorous thing ever, and if someone is squeamish about it I can see not doing it in the same room with them out of consideration, but not in the same house?!? If it bothers him that much there's a perfectly good yard outside where he can flee the horrors of normal grooming.

Is it just other people's nails that he has this issue with, or does he gnaw off his own rather than resort to clippers?

I was gonna say -- don't you live in the Arctic tundra now? Do you just not clip your nails during the winter (so that you don't lose your toes to frostbite)?

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

And it IS problematic, not just because they want to keep people watching all night; if they call the election at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, when the polls in Virginia close, that's a LOT of people in the other time zones who might not vote, and there are a lot of downticket races that are counting on a large (and largely Democratic) turnout.

It would totally suck for California, I think, because of Prop 8 which really really needs to get defeated.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Matt, he's sane enough to admit he's not rational about it. He tends to retreat to the garage or the yard to do his own nails. He's had to suck it up because with the kids, I've had to just grab them and trim their nails whenever it's convenient. If that means I do it in the kitchen, living room, or whatever.

I try to do it when he's not home so he doesn't have to get squeamish. I just can't believe he heard it over the television, upstairs and over the noise of the fan. Freaky. He apologized to me first thing for snapping.

He may be a freak but he's a loving, understanding freak.

Steph, the campaign's not taking anything for granted and will keep the ground game running hard. Get Out the Vote activities will be going strong the weekend before and the day of the election.

Powell should still carry some weight but I think he was severely damaged by the Iraq war. I hate the thought of racists claiming he's supporting Obama just because he's black. Ugh. But I know that's going to be said.

I'm curious about how my dad's taking the news. As a Vietnam Vet and a bigot, my dad is likely to vote for McCain. But Dad's said many times, he'd vote for Powell if he ever ran. This may sway my dad, which is a good thing.

Victor linked to Powell's announcement in his LJ, and it's pretty damning to McCain. He starts off saying McCain seemed unsure of what to do with the economy, and it doesn't get better from there.

Art Crawl!!!

Well, in the Meet the Press interview he did address the idea that people will claim that he only endorsed Obama because he's black. As in - if that were his reason he would have done it long ago.

Poor Joe the Plumber! He can't figure out why people are worried about him paying his taxes. Dude, don't bitch about paying mythical higher taxes when you're already not paying the taxes you owe.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Also, it may be closer than people think. Between voter purging and electronic voting machines, I think Obama needs to win by a minimum of 5 points to take the presidency. His average lead across all polls? 5.5 Points. When Obama tell people not to take his victory for granted, he is not kidding.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Actually, for once the early returns might not hurt the dem side. Turnout is depressed, but dramatically more so on the losing side.
