Question for the group: A friend of mine says she's "terrified" of what would happen if Obama wins as apparently he wants to create a national police force. News to me, if so.
The closest I've been able to find to a reliable news source regarding this is Sean Hannity, and I'd really like to point her to something that would say this is naught but extreme right wing scare-mongering.

Jesus fucking Christ, can't these people just....
Sorry. Rant averted.

Too late, I'd say. We already have the FBI. Not to mention the Secret Service and various other segments of the Department of Homeland Security.
Oh yeah, and now the US military too.

Is the speech it came from, I'd say listen at about 15 minutes. He mentions a civilian national security force, but it's in the context of peace core and opening consulates, to me it doesn't sound like new police force though taken out of context you can get that impression. So the source is a couple lines from a speech that are taken out of context.
Apparently it also was not in the transcript of the speech, so it looks like it was taken out in a revision of the speech, probably just because it was badly worded, and Obama worked off the wrong version or something. So great fodder for the conspiracy minded, but he's never mentioned anything about a new national police force. You've got one vague line in a speech. Tempest in a teapot.
Thanks, Gud. I'll point her towards that and reminding her that checking one's sources is
always
a good idea. Her hubby leans very right-wing, so I have a feeling that her view of "reliable" news sources has been somewhat compromised.
Billytea, if you don't name the kid Joey you'll be missing a grand chance! :-)
I'm pretty sure
we
should call this baby The Joey regardless of what name his/her parents go and pick.
I'm sure that there are left wingnuts who have found something that McCain has said that same sort of fear mongering way. That could be a good counter example, but I don't have time to search for left wingnut sources to find any.

Joey the Baby. Joeytea. Lots of goodness there.
