It's simple. I slap 'em around a bit, torture 'em, make their lives hell...Sure, the nice guys'll run away, but every now and then you'll find a prince like Spike who gets off on it.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Am heading to San Diego tomorrow. Meeting up with G, who has a meeting there. Going to the zoo on Saturday.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The new California Academy of Science museum here in GG Park is getting a rave review in the Times.

I used to take Emmett to the predecessor all the time on rainy days in the winter. Fun to run around and check out the dioramas. I suspect we'll only be going to the new ones when JZ's dad or mom loans us their museum membership tickets. Prices are steep.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Did anyone catch Palin's interview with Couric? I didn't, as I usually avoid the news that comes out of the television box, but this sounds way worse than the Bush Doctrine business, as avoiding the question goes:

Couric: You've said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?

Palin: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie - that, that's paramount. That's more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.

Couric: But he's been in Congress for 26 years. He's been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.

Palin: He's also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about - the need to reform government.

Couric: But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you've said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?

Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.

Couric: I'm just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.

Palin: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I'm sorry. I thought this was an open-book test.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

You know, this latest McCain-Palin stuff makes me want to fall on the floor, roll around, and have a screaming three-year-old tantrum.

“Not dead yet!”

What's the last thing that made you smile?

Nate just hugged me and called me Mama. Given that I've been "Mom" for a while now, Mama kind of made me teary and nostalgic.

Just call me "Siouxsie Shunshine".

What's the last thing that made you smile?

A student telling me today that I was her favorite teacher, that my style was "Nuclear" and that not anyone could dress like I do and pull it off but she felt I "totally did".

Oh! And DD stopping me today to tell me how he didn't watch TV but last night he watched the best show of the new season and wanted to know if I had watched it. Then he blathered on about how well it was written and acted, how creative it was, etc. The show? The Fringe When I mentioned it being like X Files he paused and then exclaimed, "You are right! I didn't even see that!"

All I could hear in my head was one of my students saying, "Dumb-ass".
