Thanks for the advice. I checked with our finance person here, since I have direct deposit ... looks like I'll be able to pay the rent. Luckily, my financial paranoia is in good shape - I have an account at a different (and, so far, financially OK) bank that I can resort to, but I feel safer now.

This is my first ever interview when it's "One person will get one job." I've always had "we're looking for mostly sane people who are coherent and aren't likely to shoot up the place." Well, not that bad. I don't know if I have any competitors. They may have had an open job for a while and no takers.
