The "get angrier" part is, really, exactly what Obama needs to do, and I don't understand why he's sitting on his ass and NOT DOING IT.
Because black men aren't allowed to get angry in this culture. It's threatening. The same way (but different) that women aren't allowed to get angry. We're perceived as shrill, over-emotional, and irrational when we're angry; black men are perceived as animalistic and prone to violence.
What Suela said.
Getting angry's the last thing Barack Obama needs to do right now, and he seems to know that. Passionate, hell yes. Angry? Hell no.
There's a reason why Jesse Jackson was only able to go so far in the 1980s--he had that history of having been an Angry Young Black Man in the 1960s, and he has never been able to shake that "threatening" image to win over the number of white voters he needed to win national office.
Biden is the one who can get angry.
Biden is the one who can get angry.
I can see it now though.
Media/critics: "Why are you being sooooo mean to the poor widdle hockey mommy?"
Biden: "Hockey Mom? What happened to pit bull?"
M/c: "But... but... she's wearing lipstick! And she volunteers for the PTA. You're just a mean, elitist white man."
I think it was Stephen Colbert who pointed out the irony of the GOP positioning Sarah Palin both as someone tough enough to take on Al Qaeda and as someone who needed protection from the Big Mean Liberal Media Elite.
I have the best husband in the world, because he went down to NYC Icy and brought me back an Icy Coffee. (Iced coffee with three scoops of coffee ice cream in it. TEH NOMNOMNOM.)
I keep trying to send psychic messages through the wall to Kristen's brain to get us some lattes. It is not working.
My stomach's growling because I'm still here at the office and haven't had lunch yet. I'll just have to talk myself out of stopping for something on the way home and getting lunch when I get there, although I've had Boston Market on the brain since I drove by one on my way here. Roast chicken is calling me!!
It's been pretty busy today here. The boss just mentioned that today was unusually heavy with clients. I'm getting familiar with the copy machine, since we were running low on forms.
