My hours are supposed to be 8:30-4:30. I'm getting much better of actually leaving somewhat on time.
This weekend, I'm going to try to see at least one of the museum exhibitions I've been meaning to see forever, probably Chihuly at the De Young.
"I leave at 5:30. I can make an exception on rare occasions but I need advance notice."
I think everybody should be able to say something like this, regardless of their actual home situation.
One thing I really like about academia is no set hours. The summer that I did office work, I nearly went crazy with having to stay in one place until a certain time.
What are people doing this weekend?
Matilda attends a birthday party tomorrow for Diego, her favorite playmate at daycare.
Sunday, Solano Stroll now with added Emmett's-baseball-team-gets-a-parade.
Lament of the Support Schlub:
"Hey, everybody, this Friday we're having the big quarterly meet-n-greet with the execs, with the catered lunch and everything! Reserve this two-hour spread and take a bit longer lunch to eat and chat and get to know your co-workers!"
Except for you folks in support. We've scheduled you in to these twenty-minute slots, so don't dawdle.
Oh, did we say twenty minutes? We're a little busy. If you could just scurry out there, scrabble together a quick plate of food, then hustle on back here, we'd appreciate it. Gosh, we just appreciate you real hard workers, we really appreciate it. OK, ten minutes, if you really have to.
Sorry that all the really good food was gone by the time you got out there, but, hey, it's free, right? And there's most of that bean salad left. Shouldn't you be getting back to work?

It can be annoying, but I'll trade that every time for be able to leave my work
at
work.
I got a last minute babysitter and we're going out to hear a band! I feel young again!

When? If you feel like it, call one of us up before or after--the DeYoung is very close. Most of our weekend is crazed with stuff-doing, but there's a chance someone might be around for a quick cup of coffee or such.
Ugh. Since I started paying for my diet food again (price went up to $120 a week--eek!), I've been trying to push my lunch time later in the afternoon, so I can eat dinner later and I'm therefore not starving at bedtime. So, I just finished lunch, and am now way too full.
Ugh.
(It doesn't help that I supplemented lunch with some honey-roasted peanuts and yogurt-with-granola.)
What are people doing this weekend?
Writing, going to Ye Olde Spooky Club with the StuntHusband, more writing, and helping gather fruit to give to the queen of the jam collective.
I am shockingly spoiled when it comes to work hours. My commute time counts as work, because I'm on the corporate bus service and am logged into email.

I wasn't actually planning on reserving, but rather making it one of my weekend walks, and showing up right when they open. So, 9:30 either tomorrow or Sunday morning.
