As rage inducing as that is, a part of me is glad a Republican went that far, because I feel a lot of the GOP have been dancing around it with the elitist and "angry liberal" comments, but most are being careful to not quite cross the line.
I have absolutely no problem with someone who is opposed to abortion having doubts about being able to raise a child with special needs -- or basically being worried, in any case. Is she saying that she didn't talk about it because she thought she might give it up? Because it looks like she didn't talk about it because it was hard for her to talk about. She's older. She's governor of Alaska. She has a lot of kids. She doesn't have a choice in the matter, given her beliefs. It must have been a stressful time for her. I think she's a ridiculous choice for McCain to make, a sort of Harriet Miers level lack of seriousness, but I have no reason to believe she's a bad person just because her beliefs are different from mine.

Yeah, I tend to agree with this, even though my dislike of her is strong and pre-dates her pick by McCain.

Yeah, well, it's hard to talk about a lot of things, but given that this was something that was going to ultimately affect the entire family, it just strikes me as odd that she basically let them discover the fact that Trig had Down's after the birth. From what I got of the interview, she never actually told them, straight out.

And oh deerloward, I may be acquiring a third cat. I don't really think a third cat is a good idea, but it looks like Miss Louise may be moving into a senior facility in a month. And she's got this kitten she loves and is worried about what'll happen to him. So. I said I'd take him if he needs a home. Hasn't had his shots or anything (ack) so I think I'll be arranging for that in the next couple weeks. Shots and a fixing.
May be the dumbest idea ever, but if it doesn't work out here, I can find him a home.

This just doesn't bother me. I don't think it is a negative thing about her character that she found it hard to talk about with her non-adult kids until the day the baby was born (when she did tell them, from that excerpt). Hiding family matters from the kids is a grand old tradition.
Look, she's not a great candidate. But it makes our side look crazy to turn everything she says and does into an opportunity to view her in the worst light.

Speaking of experience, nobody ever seems to note that Obama is a genuine expert in constitutional law. I kinda think that would be good in a President.
The Republican take seems to be that he went directly from community organizer (read: rabble rouser) to running for president. He was president of the frakking Harvard Law Review. He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. He was an attorney, which is about all the experience in the real world most of Congress has.
