Mal: Yeah, well, just be careful. We cheated Badger out of good money to buy that frippery, and you're supposed to make me look respectable. Kaylee: Yes, sir, Captain Tightpants.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I have 6 first cousins- 2 on my mom's side and 4 on my dad's side.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Ah, thanks! Thanks, Nilly. It will be fine. I've already had one meeting cancelled today, so that's a start...

I have 32 on my Dad's side of the family. Give or take a few.

Holy cow!

Punishingly Intricate

So funny you guys were talking about my friend's house for sale here over the weekend! It is super cute! And a real bargain.

I'm having trouble getting adjusted to this working thing again. Why exactly can't I be a full time rock star? Aside from only being able to stay up all night one night in a row.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I have 38 first cousins, and some of them I've only met once or twice. This guy, I think, is from the family of 15, most of which I have only met once.

I have 52 first cousins. Both my parents were from families of 12 kids.

I have 38 first cousins

On my mom's side, I have more cousins than Sue's (I'm honestly unable to give the exact number, how embarrassing - it's just that one aunt, my mom's eldest sister, is in less contact with the rest of the family, and her children are a generation or two older than me, and I have no idea how many there are. I may have met her twice in my entire life, and I'm pretty sure I've never met some of her children).

Then, some of those first cousins are already in their fifties or older, so some of them have children around my age.

Then, there are the children's of my mom's cousins - with some of them my mom and her siblings kept in touch even more than with that older sister whose children I can't number, so there's also them. Though clearly I have no idea how many of those there are, since I only know the ones my mom's immediate family kept in touch with.

Then, there are the even more distant cousins, who became related in a closer way through marriage to closer cousins (small Jewish communities in the midst of other-religions countries created many times what may seem as a marrying-distant-relatives habit). I stopped following long before that.

Nilly, I have the same issue with the age gap with my cousins. My father was the youngest of 12, so his oldest brother was a grandfather when I was born. I have second cousins my age.

That number of 52 was my last count and it is probably off by a few, that I can't remember. My dad's family is not close, but Mom's family is very close--I'm closer to some of HER cousins than some of mine on my dad's side.

God, I gave up on the second generation of first cousins.

My father was the youngest of 12, so his oldest brother was a grandfather when I was born.

My mom is the 8th of 10. My grandmother was my grandfather's second wife - his first wife died after having four children - so there's an age gap between the first four children and the other six (but they're siblings in every possible aspect other than biologically sharing a mother). When my youngest uncle was born, he already had nieces and nephews way older than him.

My dad's family is not close, but Mom's family is very close

Even though my dad's family is much smaller (he only has three brothers, for example), that's the same with us, as well.

I'm closer to some of HER cousins than some of mine on my dad's side.

And that's the same here, too. How odd.

Do Owen and Olivia know children around their age from that circle?

Yes! Which is actually great! My oldest cousin's grandchildren are Owen & Olivia's age so it's nice when we go to family reunions. Plus, I have a great-niece and two great-nephews who are close to Owen's age, whom we see quite often.

It's a crazy but fun multi-generational family.
