Do Owen and Olivia know children around their age from that circle?
Yes! Which is actually great! My oldest cousin's grandchildren are Owen & Olivia's age so it's nice when we go to family reunions. Plus, I have a great-niece and two great-nephews who are close to Owen's age, whom we see quite often.
It's a crazy but fun multi-generational family.
I'm one of 15 grandchildren on my Father's side and with the exception of one sad estrangement we are pretty actively in each others' lives. One of us is getting married in October and he is adamant that all the cousins sing at his wedding. Fortunately, one of is a music teacher and will be put in charge of the grand chorus.
I also have second cousins on both sides of my family with whom I am close. I generally just refer to them as cousins.

Isabella, a golden retriever at the Safari Zoological Park, east of Caney, Kan. nurses Wednesday, July 30, 2008, three white tiger cubs she adopted after they were abandoned by their mother at the park. The cubs were born on Sunday.

I have a mere 7 first cousins. I'm the least interesting of the adult cousins. One is an architect in New York, one owns a coffee house in New Hampshire, one is just about to become a pediatric doctor, and the last is going to start working in China fairly soon.

Oh, that *is* great. And it makes the possibility of their generation actually being able to really keep in touch that much more realistic (which I think is a very good thing).

When I landed in LA, one of the things that really convinced me that I was Somewhere Else (other than all the road signs being in English, and everything being so big) was being on board time.

Me to. I think my contribution to this conversation is usually that I have 3 cousins. And we don't really talk.
My father was the youngest of 12, so his oldest brother was a grandfather when I was born. I have second cousins my age.
Do you mean 1st cousins once removed? Those are your cousins' kids. Second cousins would be the kids of your Dad's cousins. I'm the 28th of 28 cousins on my Dad's side. And he married quite late, so a lot of my first cousins' kids are my age and many of them (my cousins) are now grandparents.
